Forums - Gaming - Iwata on Wii U price: 'This is not going to be cheap'

"In another interview this week, Iwata signalledWii U will likely be priced at more than 20,000 yen ($250) in Japan when it launches next year.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said earlier this week that the newly announced console will offer consumers "fantastic value" for money and be "competitively" priced with PS3 and Xbox 360."

Competitively with PS360 means within $199 to $349

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I guess the Nintendo that made gaming affordable is gone.. It better not be any more than $300, or they will be making a big mistake.

I'm sure that handheld controller helps to jack up the price. I also hope they stay below 300. If it means less capable graphics to do so then I am fine with that.

ermm competitively price with PS360 means it most likely won't

SONY said NGP would be competitively priced with 3DS and we know what happened there.

I don't see anywhere in your quotes or that source that he said that.

I do know he said it would likely be more than 20,000 yen, which is only $200 (based on how Nintendo usually prices things) and not an issue. I'm actually pegging it at $300-$350 which is very competitive and probably just under what MSony will launch their 2013 consoles at.

Well, 3DS costs 249 $/€ so it's not that hard to imagine that WiiU will cost more than that.

If the system is powerful enough it will sell well at 300-350 $/€.

Please excuse my bad English.

Well, Wii launched at £180 ($292), I don't see any problem with the WiiU launching at maybe £220 ($357)

It could be worse...

competitively price with the ps360 suggest absolutely no more than $350 and probably less. sounds reasonable enough to me.
