Well if the hardware's expensive, it's pretty obvious Nintendo can easily afford selling the console for a loss to compete with PS360.

No thanks. The industry needs to get away from this loss-leading crap. The PS3 wiped out all the profits made in two generations of total dominance. The videogame industry can't afford to have one its few major manufacturers knocked out of the race just because they blew a loss-leading stunt two generations in a row.
Nintendo weathered the hard years by keeping at least a tiny black margin on their hardware. Sony and MS ought to do the same, lest their investors start asking why they keep making these home consoles, anyway.

That's never going to happen, Nintendo always makes profit from the first console sold.
That title is so inaccurate that somebody should hit the original writer on the head, xD.
“These are my principles; if you don’t like them, I have others.” – Groucho Marx
From what we know about the system, Nintendo is probably releasing hardware which is fairly traditional console hardware; and falls somewhere between the Wii strategy (unusually low performance hardware) and the HD console strategy (unusually high performance hardware). With this in mind, the hardware probably will fall into a traditional hardware manufacturing price range for consoles, and adjusted for inflation I would expect it to sell at $250 to $350.
If Nintendo is able to launch for $350 and bundles the system with a collection of mini-games that are more polished versions of the demos they had on display at E3 I doubt that the price would be seen as that much of a negative; especially if the system comes packed with a wiimote+nunchuck, and a HDMI cable.
Considering the price of the 3DS and the fact that it will come with an expensive pad I cannot see them selling it for any less than $300 at launch and actually believe it will be $350... which is bad news for the rest of the world as that would convert into £300/320 ($487/520), €350 ($502), AU$40,000 ($42,150) and more than ¥SEVENTEEN BILLION (TWO-HUNDRED-AND-ELEVEN-MILLION, SIX-HUNDRED-AND-NINETY-TWO-THOUSAND, NINE-HUNDRED-AND-TWENTY DOLLARS!), guess living in Britain means I will be part of the lesser hit 'peripheral' and entirely 'unimportant' markets :|.
This is the most misleading thread title I have seen in a while.

"fantastic value" for money and be "competitively" priced with PS3 and Xbox 360."
Sounds exactly like what MS were saying about Kinect price before they announced it, actually they used those EXACT words!!
I still think $350 for WiiU.
Not sure if that's good value or competitvely priced against a possible $149 X360 and $199 PS3. Actually I would say no it isn't. But it's a next gen fucking system so why does he keep comparing. god.
