If used for energy its great, or for space exploration.

Still in love with the idea that we will get back to trying space exploration soon! T_T

Yes, NASA says so!

Yes, space exploration is what we should focus on right now. Definitely. I mean, it only costs billions of dollars and uses about a gazillion litres of fuel to get to Mars. Nevermind the starving people of the world, MAN MUST EXPLORE!

(just another point of view)

Yes there are people starving in the world, if all the rich are willing to share their wealth we can erase that, but they aren't and they never will so I don't hope for that.

I want to explore the galaxy, maybe we'll find a source to hunger that way, maybe we'll find a new planet, maybe we'll find new species who are willing to help us!

We are not even helping ourselves. There is more shit in this world than anyone of us '1st worlders' can imagine. A self destructive society like ours deserves no help and will get none.

A new specie may help humanity change its fate of destruction out of greed!

If we don't leave this fractured rock of a planet the sun will eat us up in a billion years!

You should make a thread about the bolded! IT will be a good financial (points) prospect venture for you.

I'm a fan of it and all of the future spinoffs of nuclear energy - primarily Thorium reactors.

Its the best that we have right now. Its one of the few sources of energy we can create cleanly, cheaply and safely. Fukushima was and is a knee-jerk reaction from the anti-nuclear groups which are going to hurt a lot more than they help.

Its sad we are so nuke-adverse when its proven to be the safest form of energy in history. Yes, its incredibly dangerous if utilized poorly (Chernobyl), but we've seen that it can provide huge volumes of energy in the US, France and even Japan with few significant difficulties. Even with the Fukushima indecent, its (to me) proof as to how reliable the energy source is - even with the 40 year old plant being hit by one of the most devastating disasters in history, the end results were not catastrophic for Japan. Certainly, the tsunami damage was vastly more threatening to Japan than the reactor was, yet it seems that most only care about the reactor.

Is nuclear perfect? No. It still creates waste, and that is an issue we have to deal with. But we are on the precipice of thorium which doesn't produce the type of waste nuclear is known for. I just hope people can embrace it as the future of non-renewable, clean energy.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Option 4 for me.

So you support your country's direction? (no offense intended, just figured a German opinion on Germany's move here would be useful)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I voted option 3. It's ok for now, but a better option needs to be found.

As long as it's done with private money (as more and more space travel is), I see no problem with it.

I'm pro nuclear, but I don't think it should be the only energy resource. A good system doesn't rely too much on any one technology, and has a good mix of sources. Ideally, I'd say a good "mix" going forward (so, the next couple of decades) would be about 20% renewable, 30% nuclear (and related technologies), and about 50% fossil. I don't think we should invest too much into nuclear or renewables, seeing as the future promises us a much better energy-in/energy-out ratio (which is the most important thing when it comes to energy production) with these technologies, at much lower cost. The actual renewables used should just reflect the strengths of the country - the UK using coastal, southern Europe using solar, etc.

As for the 50% fossil fuels - oil plants should be phased out, and coal/gas plants should be upgraded to be as clean/efficient as possible.
