PS gamer, it's to late for buyers remorse and from what i've read of your post, your expectations were way to high. Sony has taken on risk after risk, and to many task that seem to be way out of thier reach, power, and ability at the moment, and i hate to admit it, but if they don't regain focus they are going to fail the Vita like they failed the Move.

i think you know i can't agree with your post, mainly because you're looking way to far into the future. this isn't one of those times when you make a prediction about console sales. we couldn't possibly know what Sony is capable of at this moment, so there truly isn't a need to jump the gun.

@M.U.G.E.N : I can't honestly say you're over reacting but i can't completely agree with you either. even with 30 games out for launch, you'd find it hard to believe that all those games cater to everyone, so for the owners of a Vita in this thread, there doubts about there purchase was bound to come up eventually.

the peice we had in this thread was great while it lasted, but now you and everyone else in this thread have to prepare for the downfall that comes with successes, so either comeback, or have the thread locked.

i know you're tierd, but you're not alone.

Just type in your model number and tear down in google. There are a ton of disassembly video tutorials floating around for every PS3 model ever made. Each model is different so you have to look up your specific model for the tear down process. You don't need to worry about reflowing any solder joints, so the job is a lot less daunting if you've ever disassembled a PC.

If you haven't, then it's basically this: if you can use a screwdriver without stripping a screw head and you can take something apart without losing any screws/parts, you're more than halfway there. 

You'll need a Torx T-10 security driver to remove the screw holding the access cover in place.

Other than that, a basic P-1 Philip's head screwdriver, some rubbing alcohol/gauze (91% isopropol) or some alcohol prep pads and a syringe of quality thermal interface material (Arctic Silver 5 is fine) is all you need. 

It's actually possible to remove the torx screw with a flathead screwdriver, but it's easier to just use a T-10 bit. Once that's off, it's all standard philip's head screws holding the PS3 together. 

The last time I disassembled my CECH-A01 was I think January or December. Mostly to see how much crap had accumulated over the past year (didn't change the TIM) since I live in a downtown metro area that's hardly the cleanest place in the world. Once every two years is fine assuming you're not running the PS3 thousands of hours per year or you don't live in an apartment with thick shag carpet and a dozen pets/cats. 

do you live in the UK? i would suggest buying a new slim. my fat 60GB broke about a month ago and has caused me alot of trouble. just buy a slim now (you can get them for arouns £150) and sell your fat while it works for like £100 :)

First i am new here on vg charts. I live in switzerland and my englisch is not a good as yours. So dont kill me if i dont write perfekt englisch.

Second: The vita is on hell of a gaming maschine. I have buyed Uncharted Golden Abyss and Rayman Origins which were tow great games that i enjoyed very much. Cant wait for June when i get Little bIg Planet and Gravity Rush.

Third: Sadly the machine dont sell a good as it should be. Sure right now its a little bit to early to tell but if this thing drop like a stone than it will have a hard time like the 3DS had in his first year.
The gaming library isnt very good right now. 80percent of the released games are ports of older PS3 games. You cant sell a handheld only with ports. Thats not Sonys fault. Its the fault of the 3rd Partys who think tom realease 2 or 3 ports to get easy money instead of macking truly unique IPS for the Vita. Right know i think the only puplisher who support the maschine in a good way is Sony himself.

I truly hope that we got some good game anouncements on e3, gamescom and tokio game show.

I just noticed this "Dragon's Crown" game on metacritic, 2D action RPG coming to Vita and PS3, looks promising. I also realized Unit 13 is Vita's first shooter, and will be the only till maybe Resistance. Pretty surprising, if Resistance is in 3rd person it could be many months before the first FPS is released.

i'm very excited for dragon's crown, looks so good. on play-asia says Q2 2012 so it cant be too far i hope

And yeah Dragon's Crown looks good. Would be nice if they ported Muramasa and Odin Sphere to Vita too.
