Many don't understand that even if a game sells more in that territory than in US.....most of the time they make LESS money. Its because of the bazillion different languages it has to be translated into as well as varied and plentiful tariff laws for each country. US is far simpler and by default cheaper. Offering Digital only allows them to actually release the game in the territory without fear of not making their money back. Sure there will be less buys as most still only buy retail, but the higher margin of profit from each sold and the fact that MOST of any game's price is shipping and handling anyway kinda makes up for that. |
What about releasing it only in the UK and everyone from Europe who wants a physical copy can import it from there without having any network issues? If Gamestop in the US can sell games exclusively then, why can't something similar happen in the UK?

This. Even Nintendo did that with Pokémon Conquest. And Nintendo's probably the only company that refuses to publish in Germany unless the whole game is translated into German (which is why we have a German version of Etrian Odyssey, which probably didn't even sell 5k here). Sony doesn't usually care and releases games in English all the time here. The only thing they really have to translate is the packaging (and only that, since there's no instruction manual). Also, the biggest hurdle (having seperate rating boards, like PEGI and the USK) isn't skipped, since they also rate digital games. What's the point?
It's just a spit in the face because it shows that they don't care at all. They just want to get it (the Vita) other with, at the lowest effort and lowest cost possible. It's disgusting.
I mean, shit, if Nintendo can bring over Etrian Odyssey (which, even in Japan, isn't a big seller (Freedom Wars outsold Etrian Odyssey's lifetime numbers Day 1 and will probably outsell EO's global lifetime numbers in Japan alone)) and translate it into multiple languages (I can't seem to recall if it was the big 3 (English, German, French) or big 5 ones (English, German, Italian, French, Spanish), but it's impressive nonetheless), then Sony should damn well be able to (physically) bring over a first party title that they expect to sell one million copies. They just want to cheap out on us and expect us to swallow it.
And the final kick to the balls is the online pass. Seriously, fuck them.
