Forums - Gaming - E3 had nothing but garbage for me this year.

The following complaints are all just from my own personal taste, and I'm not trying to reflect anyone else's decision on how E3 was. I simply hated almost everything so I'm just here to rant.

1. Vita is going to lose. Tablets can do more things and the vast majority of portable gamers of today are more interested in simple games (i.e., angry birds, plants vs. zombies) that don't need that much power. Sure, hardcore gamers are still going to pick that up, but are there so many of them left nowadays on the handheld front? It'll fail to meet expectations. Last generation proved this. PSP lost to the DS by a huge margin and it didn't do it through power. Yeah, you can play God of War on PSP, all 1 million of you, but over 100 million people play Angry Birds. Sony should've scaled back the power and focused on innovation. The market isn't what it used to be.

2. Wii U will probably dominate the market. It's new, fresh, and marketable. They didn't overdo the graphics (seems almost the same as PS360, if not a tad higher) which means the console will probably have a competitive $299 or at most $349 price tag (maybe minus controllers, who knows). Unfortunately, I'm a traditional core gamer and I'm not interested in having an overly large DS in my hand. Sure they can put all the core games they want on it, but the controller is far too large and I don't give a damn about touch screens. I'm also not interested in motion gaming at all, which is stil what's going to happen with the Wiimotes being backwards compatible. This is another social gaming experiment that will probably win over the market but it will never win me over.

3. Nothing on The Last Guardian. This sucks the most.

4. Metal Gear Solid 5 and Grand Theft Auto 5 are missing in action. This was the high time for their reveal. These two games could've saved the show for me.

5. Kinect still looks as ridiculous as it started, and now it's even worse. Aside from looking stupid waving around in free space, the games looked like crap, aside from the Sesame Street thing, which was fitting for the thing since it's a kids game. Worst of all, they're going to put the bloody thing in places where it doesn't belong. In a shooter? In an action game? Thankfully it isn't too widespread. Get it devs, KINECT IS FOR KIDS, not for guys who want to shoot people! I'll never be caught dead pretending I have a gun in my hand. KB is still right. What is this, third grade? Pew Pew Pew.

6. Uncharted 3 looks underwhelming. I don't know what gives, but it looks... worse than Uncharted 2. And it seems like exactly the same game. Resistance 3 looks good, but these two games aren't going to carry Sony over the holiday. They didn't have anything special for the PS3.

7. Nothing or very little on Final Fantasy Versus 13, Agent, Final Fantasy 13-2 and Twisted Metal. It's like they ignored all those blockbusters.

8. Sequels, sequels, sequels. While I'm a fan of many of them, can't we get more new IPs please? Almost everything shown is a sequel, and they all play the same way that their predecessors do. Infamous 2, Gears of War 3, Halo 4, Forza 4, Modern Warfare 3, Resistance 3 (which looks better than the rest at least), Uncharted 3, Bioshock Infinite, Assassin's Creed Revelations, etc etc... Come on! Can't you guys think of more things? At least name the bloody things differently!

That's just my two cents. Sorry. I hated E3 this year.

I agree E3 sucked, I do have to say Bioshock Infinite might as well be a new IP going by what we've seen.

This is worst than last year! At least I had Twisted Metal in 2010. Utterly crap from all three vendor for me.

I agree with a lot of what you said.

Nintendo's Wii U reveal was especially disappointing for me, it was a confirmation of the worrying rumors (made worse by the fact that no games for it were shown and that apparently it will be the first console where you can't buy several of its controllers).

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

Generally true - apart from Vita pricing it was disapointment after disapointment.

Please, now you're just being ignorant. I'm not going to tell you what to think of Kinect, but if you don't think it can't improve gameplay outside of kids games, then you really are blind. Mass Effect 3 looked way more fun to play giving voice commands to your squad instead of going through all the menus, and it looks like it will drive immersion up too. Ryse looks akin to Red Steel 2, which was awesome. Fully tracked battles with sword and shield, yes please!

Sounds like something PC gamers enjoyed for 20+  years already due to keyboards ;)

And good luck dooing it at 2am when rest of family is sleeping.

Who said it wasn't? I'm saying it improves gameplay and compared to the console version, that's what it looks like. I don't see how keyboards help immersion though...

So don't play with voice commands when your family is asleep? You don't play Rock Band when your family is asleep either...

Nothing an head set cant do is all i am going to say there for mass effect 3.

Anyways Kinect isn't an kids only toy, i dont reguard middle age mothers as kids. But i have pointed out many times, until 3D movement can use kinect (with no controller) its been an failure on the core gamer front and devs shouldn't bother. I also dont see using an controller then getting up or throwing an arm in the air going to create immersion if they do add an controller to the mix.

On the PSVITA, you say that there isn't enough gamers who want those experiences in the handheld front, well thats wrong. There are in fact more gamers than ever before, but will they buy the device is an different question. Also the PSP never failed hardware wise, it sold heading towards 70 million thats an huge number, sure it has sold 150 million like the DS, but thats an decent amount. What the PSP failed in is Priacy but thats and different story.

On the Wii U selling, i wouldn't count on the just because Wii sold big doesn't mean the next one will sell more or the same, see PS2-PS3 massive drop. The biggest problem with the Wii U is the controller price. If that controller breaks above 100-150 dollar mark then Nintendo going to have an real trouble getting families to buy there next system.

Also i have given up on getting hyped in more for games, and i have lost all hope in First person shooters, come on RPG's dont let me down.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

I mostly agree with you...

- I think PSV will do well, so we differ there

- Your Uncharted 3 comments disturb me.

- I don't think Wii U will dominate as much as you think (I might be horribly wrong here)

- I agree with your Kinect comments. It was a rather lame showing again. Nothing very cool or innovative in terms of core games. I mean, VOICE COMMANDS!? Seriously lame. I don't want to speak whilst playing a game. Also, this is possible via a headset already and would work much better than speaking to a device 2m away. I thought some of the apps and stuff for Kinect were very cool though.
