Of course they blew it, the Wii U is destined to be a failure The system abandons everything that made the Wii successful. Its not about combating disinterest, or increasing the audience of gaming. Its basically a gamecube 2, the whole idea of connectivity that began with the GBA-Gamecube connection to fruition. (Although it will likely be a lot cheaper to buy 4 Wii U-pads than 4 Vita's or 4 3DS's which would set you back $1000)

The system cedes to every other form of entertainment, and isolates the gamer, totally different than what was the Wii's intention of competition with all other entertainment by bringing everyone together.

Not to mention, that big tablet with all the controls will probably scare more people away from gaming

Not you ag ain.

Did you even listen to the speech in the beginning?

Always going on and on like some kind of marketing expert. Dumbass.

I listened tothe speech at the beginning, but what they showed shows something very different.

maybe you need to watch the presentation again.

What they showed was that the TV is for other stuff, and the Wii U is relegated to being played on the small tablet, baseball, TV shows, maybe even other consoles can all force the Wii U games to be played on the small screen.

What they showed was people playing on the tablet by themselves away from everyone else.

What they showed was a very complex, bulkiy looking and expensive controller

The TV is for other stuff?...The games are played on the TV and some info is shown on the controller. If someone has to use the TV or you are playing at night while in the bedroom with your spouse (for example) you can just play on the controller so you don't disturb them.

The controller was shown to be able to bring new experiences to playing games.

I don't know what you mean with the word 'force'...

What they showed was a controller great for single player and multi-player gaming. You must have gone blind during the multi-player sequences with the Wii-motes shown.

All hands on have said the controller is light and comfortable.

Anyways, I wasted time arguing with you once. Never again. I know your type....

I didn't see the whole conference, but I tuned in at around the time they were talking about the new controller, wasn't impressed by it or the games they announced for it, although the GTA style lego game looks kinda cool. The new controller looked really odd and it looked quite big, I was left thinking 'Is that controller going to be comfortable to use'. They seem to be going after the hardcore auidence with this console which I can understand on one sense, but at the same time I'm a little confused by it, Nintendo are obviosly a casual/family friendly driven company, there's no denying that. Why would Ps3 or 360 owners jump ship to this? Because Wii U provides graphics that are on par or 'slightly' better than 5+ year consoles?

There is potential, no doubt about it, it just didn't get me at all exicted.

Nintendo is doomz! Seriously though, I'd jump so fast because I have no brand loyalty and I've gotz the moneh. Not to mention I still think Galaxies 2 is the best console game of this gen, we'll see if UC3 in 3D could change that though, UC3 looks so awesome >=D.

To be honest this reminded me Nintendo E3 conference in 2005, they made the Wii announcement without showing anything yet, this time it was a bit better but not very much, next-year we will actually see what is shaping out for it. At the moment I'm looking forward Skyward Sword and these fine 3ds games.

A core gamer who already owns an HD console gets WiiU for the amazing first party Nintendo games they had to miss out on for fear of not being considered "core" and/or couldn't afford more than one platform. They get the games they already have and enjoy, plus Zelda, Mario, DK, et al. It works both ways. It's a good thing. Something for everyone, like they said.

Yeah, if someone wants to do something else, you ove tothe small screen, that's the problem, that's not competing with other forms of entertainment, the Wii was created to compete, and be better than all other entertainment choices, the Wii U is clearly saying that its not competing, and is willing to cede.

The controller of the Wii U is complicated and bulky ndexpensive looking, not something inviting like the Wiimote was.

No what they showed was a console that's great for taking you away fro mthe T, nd away from everyone else, rather than making gaming about getting everyone involved and something everyone does

It doesn;t look light and comfortable, and that's the problem people will be scared off from even trying it, not a good start to fighting disinterest

I didn't watch the conference, but looking at the footage afterward, I can say I think it was OK. A lot of games I care for were announced (Luigi's Mansion 2, Super Mario 3D, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, ...) so I'm a happy camper. :)

Need something off Play-Asia? http://www.play-asia.com/

So, where are my awesome motion controlled games you promised with Wii Nintnedo? On a touchpad controller?

I LOVE ICELAND!

They totally blew it, which sucks because Sony and MS both had bad shows, so it was Nintendo's for the taking, and they dropped the ball. This is baffling to me because they had a NEW CONSOLE, and still couldn't deliver. What I don't get is how there were no new Wii games OR Wii U games shown. This is E3, Nintendo, now is the time to show this stuff!

And frankly, I am not sold on that Wii U controller. Why do I need a screen on my controller? The Wiimote offered a fresh way to play games and made games more accessible, this on the other hand is essentially nothing different than a DS, and seems like it would make games more awkward to control. I just feel like Nintendo is becoming more hardware focused and less software focused.

Well disappointingly I'm gonna have to say Sony won. Microsoft was arguably the worst but Nintendo's wasn't much better. Sony's was good but not great. It didn't deserve first place for sure. Sony never really surprised us.

This is about how I feel as well. Sony didn't win for me so much as they happened to be the best loser
