Forums - PC - Electronic Arts on GOG

Just announced during CDProjekt's live broadcast.

First three four available games are

- Wing Commander Privateer
- Dungeon Keeper
- Ultima Underworld 1 and 2

3 4 brilliant Origin and Bullfrog classics, Privateer and Dungeon Keeper are among my all-time favorutes.

GOG will re-release more than 25 EA classics, but Syndicate or System Shock won't be among them (license issues still unresolved).

EDIT: site is online again and it's actually 4 games - Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 are released as a package.

CD Projekt is on a role recently.

More info from their official announcement:

"We will be adding more than 25 titles from EA over the next few months, so the games will be unveiled gradually, but we can already reveal that the next upcoming titles from this huge deal are: Crusader: No remorse, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and Magic Carpet."

Magic Carpet was brilliant back then though I doubt it will be much fun today as the graphics are extremely dated now.

I finally get to play Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. It's graphics were already called a bit dated when it was released afaik, but in this genre it doesn't matter at all.

I just bought Dungeon Keeper and Ultima Underworld 1&2 for $12 / €8.50 ...

...and downloading. The file size of the UU 1&2 package is 26 MB...those were the days.

25? that's quite a lot!

I'll also finally play Alpha Centauri. but they don't need to hurry though, I still have other games to play :P

Alpha Centauri is not in 3D, I don't think it will feel dated, 2D with a nice resolution is always fine.

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

To be honest, it probably wasn't the reviewers who said Alpha Centauri looks dated, it was just me.

When it was released I thought "hey, this looks like Civ II in space with ugly brown and grey landscape tiles". The graphics, which were too similar and imo even a bit inferior to Civ II which had been released 3 years earlier, plus the restricted scifi scenario were the main reason I skipped Alpha Centauri and waited for Civ III instead despite all the critical acclaim AC got.

Good news for GOG...but I was kinda hoping it was Lucas Arts they made the deal with. I'd love to be able to play Sam & Max Hit the Road!

"But I don't want to go among mad people!" said Alice. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat. "We're all mad here."

That's very good news for GOG, but why is EA teaming with them and anouncing Origin at the same time?

Looks like a double strategy to me.

They sell their newer games on Origin and let GOG handle the re-releases of their classics from the 90s.

No System Shock is giant fail :(

Yes, but they sell their new games on Steam too. If you sell your games, both old and new on competing platforms why lauch your own one? (besides the obvious "because we can or because we want more money)
