Forums - Gaming - The one, most necessary feature missing in all sports games

What you're suggesting is player management, i.e. manage the life of one chosen player, not managing the destiny of your favourite club. Wouldn't be successful imo as only few people would only want to manage the life of one player.

Manager games work very well on a club level though and while I don't play them anymore today I had a lot of fun with football manager games in the past (Bundesliga Manager, Anstoß, Hattrick, Fußball Manager aka FIFA Manager).

Transfer market, team and player morale system, detailed contract negotiation, improving player skills, press interviews, keep players motivated during a match (halftime speech) as well as between matches, player punishment, individual training and financial micromanagement (how to earn your club more money with yearly sponsor negotiations, adjusting ticket prices for every single match and spend the money on e.g. stadium improvements, national and international scouting, training facilites, medical department) are features that have been included, refined, removed and re-included in football managers over the past 20 years.

Latest example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2JEdzEbIoE

Pro evo Soccer (and fifa)  already does something like that called "Be a legend" and it's amazing

I got FIFA 10 (I'm boycotting the imo still better PES as long as Bundesliga isn't included) and never tried out its "Be a Pro" mode. Maybe I should, I heard and read good things about this new PES/FIFA feature, but I don't think that's what bugrimmar is asking for.

He wants to get to manage mainly the private life of a player, not just control the player's sports career. It seems he wants a Sims-like feature in a sports game, and I don't think that many buyers of sports games would really want that. If anything, fans want to manage every aspect of their favorite club. That's what we have football manager games in Europe for since the genre was invented in 1982 with the original Football Manager. The genre became really popular in the 90s.

As bugrimmar specifically mentioned a NBA game:
As far as I know not many manager games exist for US/NA sports. In Germany we had a quite successful and fun icehockey manager game in 1993, today we still get icehockey manager games from time to time and different developers, but they are all about the German league afaik, The only NA sports league manager series I know of was the NHL Eastside Hockey Manager from the Football Manager developer.

So basically you want sports games to turn into The Sims featuring sport minigames lol.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Be a Pro is sadly not as indepth as Be a legend, that's one of the few things Pro has over Fifa.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

What are you on about? FIFA needs better physics and defensive AI, not to allow me to buy virtual items...

so I guess you're going to be a fan of FIFA 12 ?

I play at least 5 hours of FIFA 11 ever week, and I am very sure those are the main issues, they also might want to sort out free kicks... and shooting a bit. Every game feels much better than the last, but there is still loads to sort out

yeah well I wasn't sure if you knew that EA Sports adresses the problems you mentioned in FIFA 12 when you made that post.

Only thing that comes to my mind what I don't like is the misinterpretation of handballs. I think I had a match with a friend where I crossed the ball 3 times in the box and I got a penalty everytime because my cross hit his player's arm from 2 feet away.

WAIT you can turn hand balls on!

My friend vaguely mentioned it, but I assumed he was talking crap like usual! I have been moaning about that for ages

NB when I say I play 5 hours a day, it is 99% of the time local co-op and often drunk...
