Sorry got piracy on the mind right now. Wouldn't that be an end run around having to buy a copy to play yourself with others at the same time, or piracy? I know if everyone has there own copy than no, but the multiple people from the same house. Would that not be considered piracy unless each personed had their own copy?

But removing key features that enabled easier acces for more people is pretty much allways a bad idea. May stop sc2 from being the long lasting success that sc1 was

That is Blizzard's position, yes. They argue that LAN would lead to more piracy. This is also why they deny tournanments LAN copies, because they might leak.

I argue that allowing those things promotes the game, that piracy doesn't subtract from your game's sales and the exposure may add to it (of course I am against piracy). They are losing more by being so restrictive.

I don't think multiple people from the same household playing each other is piracy, I view it as local multiplayer like Mario Kart or DS Download Play games. I don't mean multiple people playing online simultaneously with one copy. Blizzard chose to restrict this.

Thats what I was thinking. What made Sc1 so great it was easy to get to play online free and legaly with the spawn copies, and that helped nurture a great community that helped keep the game selling for so long. I dont think sc2 will recreate that feel.

I understand the need for lan from my college days... but really... that's not such a big portion of the userbase who need it. (though it certainly is the most vocal and the most active one).

I don't even use it that often. It's the pure principle of the matter that they take away something so integral as LAN. That's just starting on a road to dumbed down blandless games like the ones on consoles that are extremely limited. No thank you, I'd rather bitch and not give Blizzard money for their weakest game.

Plus that whole "they first came for the jews, and I said nothing...." saying.

In the case of LAN, I don't think you can pin that one on the consoles.  I mean, AFAIK, LAN has never been as big on consoles, but what IS on consoles isn't getting any worse.  Is it?

I wasn't pinning it on consoles. I am saying that it's an integral feature that got removed, much like consoles dumb down and remove integral features of their games. coughDedicatedServerscough.

LAN implies that your copy of SC2 does not have to check with a central B.net server in order to play games.

The consequences of this are that unofficial servers can be set up like iCCup were, allowing effectively cross region play and multiple ladder accounts per household, as well as fixing cross-region lag.

You could still connect to the official server for its benefits, but other things I listed could be provided by an SC2 iCCup.

I see. To me LAN mean Local Area Network so basically only playing on your home network.

Yes. Then you can use virtual LANs to connect to any computer, causing everything I listed to happen.

Well I hope that means you won't be playing it vlad.

As for me, I think the LAN complaint has been blown completely out of proportion, but that doesn't mean it's a Day 1 for me.  I'll almost definitely get it though.

If you're a casual fan, you're probably right.

But if you're a hardcore SC2 fan/player, I can show you how the lack of LAN can really hurt competitive gaming, like what happened in MLG finals of 2010, or the TSL finals (chill get out!), and there are other examples.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

I'm one of the rare ones who only play starcraft for the single player campains.

Do you play 1v1 at all? I'd like a custom game and I haven't found anyone else on VGC with an EU copy.

errr i'm sure there's plenty ^^

I made a thread asking this specifically and got zero replies. I've checked the profiles of everyone who posted in an SC2 thread since December. They all live in the US or "only play single player".

EDIT: Uncalled for. Sorry.

Fuck your ^^

I play multiplayer and have a EU copy, though I haven't played in a few months. I was playing almost every day for a few weeks (mostly with friends while on Teamspeak at the same time), but then I stopped for no reason.

I may start again soon though!

If you're that desperate, put an invitation in your sig.  More visibility.
