I don't care about the history or the timeline, but lets take a look at some Skyward Sword features:

  • 1:1 sword fighting;
  • Very cool puzzles;
  • Creative items (thanks to the motion plus);
  • An incredible art style far better than most of the generic HD black/brown/grey games.
So I'm pre-ordering it as soon as Nintendo anouces the release date.

Also, Miyamoto is very involved with the game.

That's not entirely true ... My brother got a bit confused at some of the cutscenes in TP, especially the parts showing Ganondorf with a triforce (why he had it), that stuff was mostly shown in OoT

Though generally, there isn't too much of a connection between Zelda games

Majora's Mask is a direct sequel to Ocarina of Time, Spirit Tracks to Phantom Hourglass and Zelda II to Zelda Nes. I believe that you can understand better the story in The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess if you played first Ocarina and Majora's Mask.

Let me rephrase that one . . . *There isn't too much of a connection between the Zelda games that I've played

@your last sentence: look at what you quoted (top) XD

I also believe that Nintendo themselves don't think too hard about a coherent timeline.

Why should they? Every game can be played without knowing the others. There's no connection.

Hey manuel, you're in Japan. Could you please tell us what the Japanese call the game that we in the West know as "A Link to the Past"?

The Triforce of the Gods.

I believe.

wfz is right.

It's called "Kamigami no Triforce" (= "Triforce of the Gods")

I agree with what the wise man with the awesome avy said! :D - - - SS has some awesome stuff going for it

I don't care about how it fits in the timeline, just that the game has a rich, deep stroyline. It's part of the reason why I love TP so much! We haven't gotten many trailers showing that side of the game yet! I predict some epicness ahead! :p

I have to agree with the two gentlemen above... SS is going to be really really awesome...

OT:  Zelda III... Hmm, while I think zelda II was good, I dont really see a lot room for a Zelda III... Unless there was another hidden princess or something...

I waited four years and you know what Nintendo gave us The legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.  A freaking side story about some kid thousands of year in the future. I wanted to see Link mature into a man. I gave it a shot and I admit it's a good game so I let it slide and patiently waited for the real Zelda III.

I thought LttP was, well, in the Past. My general understanding of the child timeline was OoT -> MM -> TP -> LttP -> Oracles -> FSA -> Zelda -> Zelda II -> Awakening

no it goes adult MC -> FSA -> Oot -> TP -> WW -> PH -> SP -> Oracles
then child  MC -> FSA -> Oot -> MM -> Zelda -> Zelda II -> Awakening -> Lttp

It's Nintendo's fault why we still haven't got a proper Kingdom Hearts 3 from SquareEnix. SE is following Nintendo's foot steps. They're probably thinking all we need to do is keep making these side stories with no real bearing on the actual story line and we'll be rich because these gamers will keep eating them up.

And now ubisoft is making a 4th Assassin's Creed game yet not actually make ACIII! Even though Brotherhood was an amazing game with a fun multiplayer aspect I'm not going to even bother with Revelations. These companies need to stop milking these franchises with dumb sidestories that try to expand the backstory or the universe they live in and just continue the story of the main line.
