Nintendo on top, as usual.

Infrequent? Its been well over a year since anything for the Wii came out that I wanted to get. Good thing I have a PC to fall back on or I'd be a depressed gamer.

But all these Sony fanboys screaming statistical tie or whatever seem to have quietened down when they're in the lead Wii may make first, but more likely to stay second. Depends if PS360 drop after LA Noire, and by how much. |
Didn't you learn the rule yet? It applies to every architecture: If your favourite console is first by a whisker, it's first, if it's second by a whisker it's a testicular pie!
Although there are exceptions to fanboyism that are like a bright light in the obscurity: PC gaming is actually the biggest, but the most undertracked, nevertheless we PC gamers don't scream! Actually we got no time to do it, we must update drivers, fix bugs, get around incompatibilities and Windows quirks, etc to make our games eventually run.

I know the rules. It's just it seems stupid. Yes, congrats to PS3 but it should really have been in first all along, not now that the gen is dying. And beating an outdated console with no games for the past 5 months and only a $50 price cut when you have loads of new toys and games is still a bit depressing.

Eh?
It's twice the price of the Wii and is still beating it. Also, as much as people hate to hear it, Wii sells based on evergreen titles such as Wii Sports, Mario Kart, NSMB, and Wii Fit. The only new releases that do contribute to the numbers are what is seen as evergreen in 2 months.
ps3 is the number 1, because the console have the best games 2011.
the best RPG's are coming 2013 !!!! oh my god, this is perfect for RPG-GAMER = ) Ni No Kuni - 25 january, Time and Eternity, tales of xillia (PS3) and the maybe best game ever: metal gear solid ground zero

The only depressing part is beating the other when they are both down YoY and what Wii can't really be happy about are its recent Japan sales. But before declaring this gen depressing as a whole for any competitor, let's wait for its end and lifetime totals. By the end of this year this gen (home consoles, as this gen of portables already reached stellar results, beating the two previous gens combined, if I counted them up right) will already be bigger than the previous overall, already a good result for gaming. By the end of next year Wii will be abundantly beyond 100M, an excellent result. About Wii competitors, XB360 cannot be happy of having thrown away its head start, but it can be happy of its attach rate and XBL profits, PS3 can't be happy of having lost the leadership its predecessor gained and partially wasted some opportunities after its bad start, but it can be happy of doing a lot better now and of its still fast growing game library that is helping it rebuilding its tarnished brand name and making up for losses on HW. About current Wii situation, its future is in Nintendo hands.
