I know the rules. It's just it seems stupid. Yes, congrats to PS3 but it should really have been in first all along, not now that the gen is dying. And beating an outdated console with no games for the past 5 months and only a $50 price cut when you have loads of new toys and games is still a bit depressing. |
The only depressing part is beating the other when they are both down YoY and what Wii can't really be happy about are its recent Japan sales. But before declaring this gen depressing as a whole for any competitor, let's wait for its end and lifetime totals. By the end of this year this gen (home consoles, as this gen of portables already reached stellar results, beating the two previous gens combined, if I counted them up right) will already be bigger than the previous overall, already a good result for gaming. By the end of next year Wii will be abundantly beyond 100M, an excellent result. About Wii competitors, XB360 cannot be happy of having thrown away its head start, but it can be happy of its attach rate and XBL profits, PS3 can't be happy of having lost the leadership its predecessor gained and partially wasted some opportunities after its bad start, but it can be happy of doing a lot better now and of its still fast growing game library that is helping it rebuilding its tarnished brand name and making up for losses on HW. About current Wii situation, its future is in Nintendo hands.
