Forums - Sales - PS3 may never catchup to the 360

The ps3 will take OTHERS and japan from the Xbox 360 we all know this, now it all depends.

Sony needs these things to WIN THIS GEN:

Price point of $299.99

AAA exclusives graphics power house games:

FF XIII
MGS4
Killzone 2
little big planet
INFamous

Better advertising, and HOME.
This is all sony needs to take the U.S and take the XBOX 360 to 3rd place. PS3 should end up with 20% marketshare by the end of this week sales. Nice jump from 14% in august.

So yes ps3 is gaining ground on the xbox 360, but its not doing it like the wii.

Your probably right, but thats a lot to accomplish and don't forget if ps3 goes down to 299 360 will probably go to 199. Home will take a looonng time to become successful because just because building a good online network is such a complicated and expensive endeavor.

Well considering that heavenly sword is about to become a million seller on the ps3, and Uncharted is nearing 600k I dont think I should be dissapointed..

Besides KZ2 has a much larger amount of hype compared to those other exclusives.

Back in August these games were going to be AAA multi-million selling games and able to match Halo 3 and Super Mario Galaxy, and today nearly 1 Million or 600,000 units meets expectations?

Saying a game will be good, or sell reasonably well is much different than hyping a game like Heavenly Sword, Lair and Uncharted were.

@passenger

The xbox 360 is already $120 cheaper than the cheapest ps3(comparing Arcade and 40gb) yet its selling slighty better than the xbox 360. I think we will be seeing a $299.99 ps3 next year, and it will really give sony a chance to catch up to the xbox 360's large install base.

actually not that expensive, There is nearly free mmo (have to buy items with cash like Second Life). The network is 100% great even for free players and There is 3 years old.

Who said uncharted, or any of those games would rival SMG or H3 sales?

Ok let me clarify, its expensive for the provider i.e. Sony, not the consumer. Part of the reason why xbox live is so successful is because it's not free.

As I said in another thread, there is almost certainly a larger - sunstantially larger- reservoir of PS2 owners than former XBox owners who has not yet committed to this generation. This would make things much easier for Sony, as all they need to do is tap their own fanbase, where Microsoft will need to find a way to lure them to the darkside. Even a 55-45 split in Sony's favor will likely result in the PS3 outpacing the 360.

While it is not impossible for MS to drain that pool, they are going to have to make a better effort than in 2007, where they were hobbled by the RROD (which stymied a price cut, which stagnated sales in the first half of the year, and allowed the PS3 to stumble on a price structure that isn't chasing fans away). 2007 was MS chance to absoutely bury the PS3, but they flubbed it, most notably at E3, when the Halo360 landed with a thud, and the audience was left wondering "where's the price cut? where's the price cut?" Sony provided it (twice) and while not in wonderful shape, has managed to keep pace with the 360. Now that Sony is off the mat, it's going to be that much harder to put down.

no its because there hasnt been a console that had something that rivals it and the PSN is becoming stronger and stronger every week as its like PC's online network. Unrestricted, basic, free, able to have additional expanded networks attacted in Sony's case HOME.

Consider that there was 50 Million SNES owners and 35 Million Genesis owners and yet Sony entered the market with absolutely no existing markeshare and dominated ... People who bought your previous console are meaningless in this generation. I should admit there is an exception to this, there were a lot of PS2 systems sold because people's Playstation broke and they purchased a PS2 (for under $200) because it was just a little more than buying a replacement Playstation.

Your make a good point, but one of the things that successful companies do well (including both Sony and Microsoft) is waiting for the other company to make a move. Xbox live's charge to the consumer allows the provider to take care of the cost and performance issues that plague third party online software. Also, I can't speak for Microsoft but I don't think their going to sit back and let Sony kick their buts, who know maybe one day live will be free.
