Forums - Nintendo - DoA Dimensions is amazing to a noob of the series

This is the first DoA I've ever bought, I played DoA2 on the PS2 at a friends before but I was never able to grasp the fighting mechanics, do any amazing combos, and it didn't look all that impressive either.  DoA Dimensions changed that, just picked it up today, I've been playing through singleplayer all day, it not only helps you learn the fighting mechanics (with good pacing and gradual build up) it also tells the complete story of the series, so any newcomer like myself can easily jump in, learn, and won't be lost on the story of the past 4 titles.

Also I believe this game trumps Super Street Fighter IV in a LOT of ways, SSFIV has lite controls sure, but DoA:D takes that a step further, if you start off a combo the list of combos leading from that first attack pop up on screen, so you can either learn the list or you could tap the move for each button press and execute the combo that way, so it allows for MUCH more freedom than SSFIV and unlike SSFIV actually helps teach me the fine mechanics of the game.

Couple this with a good number of characters, many costumes for each, more coming in DLC via spotpass, and having really detailed stages... it makes DoA a very impressive fighter and quite the contender.  If you love combo and counter heavy technical fighters DoA is for you, if you don't know much about them, well DoA is probably the best entry point ever, and for those that are seasoned vets of the series... well there's finally a proper DoA game on the go, not that PSP game taking pictures of the girls (though you can do that in this game as well using the 3DS camera to help no less! )

Basically don't pass this game up, many people whining about wanting games on their 3DS, if you like fighting games at all, it's for you.

And here's a decent video showing off everything I'm talking about even if it is a bit shaky

Tells you the story of the past games while teaching you the fine tuned mechanics, you also see my only real issue with singleplayer in this video which is some scenes are fully animated while others are the 3D models standing in poses, much like Bayonetta did with it's cut scenes, I'm guessing this is how Japanese developers are cutting some costs but it stands out when some scenes are really animated well and then going to zero movement.

Still pretty torn on this. It's either this, or Link's Awakening on the e-shop (if that's an e-shop launch title). Link's Awakening would be cheaper, but this would be more different, as i'm buying two Zelda games this year already and also buying Okamiden which might as well be one...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Street fighter is terrible at teaching the mechanics of the game.

havent played the 3dS version have the PS2 one but DOA is friendlier and its fighting mechanic is definitely fun, but everything else is lame .

I'm really considering getting this, and this is really good to hear.  I've never played a DoA game before, but Dimensions could be my first.

Actually i've never played Link's Awakening. If i wanted to optimize my new experiences i'd drop OoT which i borrowed/rented on N64 and still own for GameCube, but i'm too enamoured of the yet-more-enhanced Master Quest to pass that up

I'm not buying this right now anyway. Need to finish up the last big grind in Pokemon White then beat the 2nd elite four and Cynthia, then i'll buy OoT, then i'll see what i feel like once i've beaten that...

I haven't played this one, but I think the series is pretty underrated. DoA4 was a lot of fun.

Ill get it once i grab some more cash.

DOA is overrated IMHO, its one of the worst of the 3D fighters IMO. It could still be mindless fun, but hell at least its an actual fighting game and not some perverted volleyball crap. WTH ill probably pick it up when i get 3DS eventually, it will be dirt cheap by then and the more people buy fighting games, the more they make
