not really... look at the last 2 1/2 years only and a very different picture would emerge I would imagine. For the first 2 1/2 years of the PS3 the PS2 was still selling very well and very active. Very different now.

I know that. I'm not arguing PS2 sells more now and I know it accumulated this advantage in the first couple of years. But it still took PS3 until this moment to catch up to the PS2 (since PS3 launch, of course).
Edit: just to make things clear I mean total accumulated HW since PS3 launch and not quarterly. I know PS3 caught up to PS2 quarterly long ago.

Not to be too negative but this says just as much about how far PS has fallen this gen as much as how well PS2 has done...

It has fallen a lot and we all know that. Sony is the only one to blame, too.
Regardless, the PS2 has also done almost as well as the 360 and if i remember correctly it is outshipping Wii currently, or it was before the pricecut (yes, the Wii has also fallen). It's still impressive.
