Forums - Gaming - Can fanboyism be compared to religious fanaticism? Apple fans lead the way

Lol

But yeah there are extremists for pretty much anything out there.

Find me a extremist for burnt toast! :P

Apple fans are by far the worse, and if the organization ever crumbles to become niche again, I honestly feel sorry for them, because I think their ego's couldn't handle it.

Oh i'm sure there are a few!

the biggest difference would be is that religious people are a bit more delusional for going along with the stories. You can actually see and use the stuff these fanboys have an emotional attachment to.

It's funny that I actually experience it the other way around.

I know lots of people who own Apple products (myself included) and all of them know why and that's it. They don't brag about it nor do they want anyone to be as "cool" as themselves by getting Apple products instead of their PCs, Android phones or whatnot. They know that every system has its positive and negative aspects and it's everyone's own choice what they want and what they need. Why should I buy a PC when I do audio engineering and it's a fact that it's way more efficient to work on a Mac? Even if it's double the price, it will work for me double the time because there's no need to upgrade the hardware every once in a while and clean up the OS while I could work.

I only see people on the internet and everywhere outside who do NOT own any Apple stuff and go crazy about it, how dumb everyone else is and that THEY are the greatest form of life. The bad thing is not the majority of Apple users who want everyone to switch and understand - it's the other people who think they are uber-smart and have to talk bad about everyone else on the internetz.. Wtf, seriously.

I know a few Apple fans myself, who do go to great lengths to support Apple, so it's not like these people don't exist. But it's certainly important to distinguish between people who simply like Apple's products for what they are what they do, and those who get excited about something, simply because it's made by Apple.

I somewhat agree with this.  The backlash is almost as bad.  It's a bit similar to the "Wii60" phenomenon at the beginning of this generation as a hate statement toward the PS3.

To me, it's all just electronic devices less than $500.  I find no need to fanatically follow a certain brand, including game consoles.  It's more fun just to open up and enjoy what is out there.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

Apple is nothing in compansion to Star Trek and Star War cult followings.

I believe the fanboys of Nintendo and Sony are pretty big in numbers.

I believe, what was seen in the Apple study, along with other brands, like Harley-Davidson (and also likely videogame consoles and companies), is they all trigger the same part of the brain as religious devotion does.  I do wonder if this is a new study, or the one I remember reading about in the past (or it was in video clip I watched).

Actually im pretty sure many of the Sony fans here in particular would probably give similar results on an MRI. I think before there were Apple fans there were quite a lot of Sony electronics fans out there.

Tease.

My first uncle live and die by Sony brand. He won't listen to you whatsoever, Sony is the best.

No research needs to be done, IMO. If you know apple fanatics in person or on the internet, you'll see that this statement is true :)

Why would I want to spend twice the money for a mp3 player?  Why do I need a touch phone that can surf the internet, play stupid apps, etc... when I only use cell phones to make calls (not even text)?  Why do I need anything Apple?  I don't and I refuse to pay for their brand mark up prices.  That is why I hate Apple.  They put a product out on the market and slap their name on it and it goes up in price 200%.  I can't deny their success recently however I can easily diss their products.  The first iPad.... Don't even get me started on that piece of shit.  They didn't even include USB ports in the first one.  How pathetic is that.  One can be like well USB is the past blah blah blah.  Still how hard/costly is it to include a USB port that a majority of the users would have found some use at one point.  Now they included it in the iPad2.  They release products that don't include most of the features at first so they can release the next iteration with said feature.
