Forums - Sales - PS3 tops 360 in Netflix usage

^^^ what the hell are you talking about?? PS3 has its own video rental service as well, it has had it forever. At least know what your talking aobut.

OT im quite surprised myself, especially considering that Netflix has been available much longer on 360 than the other two consoles. Im even more surprised that Wii is so low (even lower than PC) what are those millions of people with Wii's doing, hell even i use netflix on Wii, why not??

interesting since there are less PS3 in the US.

But this goes hand in hand with the fact that more PS3's are connected then 360. I dont know the numbers in the US and 360 could be higher there, but yea its interesting.

ther more relvant comparision is # of ps3s vs. # of 360s with netflix access.

as i understand it both systems have a simular internet attach ratio but netflix is availbile to everyone on th eps3 while only to gold members on the 360.   even though the 360 has ~twice the userbase in the US if only ~half are gold then the numbers are really about even.

That is a good point, but I still prefer that other dude's theory about the rrod solely because it is more interesting.

By more interesting do you mean pretty much impossible but makes 360 look worse?

Seriously, this thread shouldn't of gone past "360 gold membership only" as soon as it was mentioned as it's not really even a theory since it's a fact that it's the case and would be silly if it WASN'T the reason.

Me... I don't use either my 360 or my PS3.

I use my PC.  Though PS3 for discs through the mail.

PS3 is one of the best... actually THE BEST netflix device you can buy today. (1) It is the only device that supports 5.1 surround sound on the market today and the  only device that streams in full 1080P (X-high, need good internet speed though). (2) Starts the movie much faster than the Xbox. (hell, go on youtube and there is a comparison on it). (3) Many sites and users on this site have stated the PS3 GUI is better... I think it is a good enough sample size to conclude that PS3s GUI is better than the Xbox 360. I personally never had any problems or slow downs on my PS3.

Kinect definitely is a plus for Xbox but it is a $210  option like mentioned above. Not all people who have an Xbox also have kinect (actually only 1/5 Xbox owners have kinect). But like I said if you do happened to be the lucky ones who have netflix and kinect, I can imagine it to be a great feature to have around.

I don't know what "GUI" means.  I just assumed you guys couldn't spell "Gooey".  "Goddam User Interface"?

PS3's Netflix is easier to set up, you just say that you're an existing member and type in your account info. For some reason Xbox gives you an activation code that is to be sent to you're email and then you type that in blah blah I don't even know what happens next because I lost interest so fast and just stopped trying. Long story short its harder to set up.

It's probably just the convenience of being able to set it up so fast that makes the PS3's Netflix the more often used.

Nope.  I've had to use an activation code for PS3, Wii, and 360.  You can go to Netflix.com and deactivate your PS3 and try to reactivate it if you want to.  When you turn on your new device (I even had to do it with a Netflix enabled TV I had for a couple of days back in January), the code pops up on the TV.  You have to go to the Netflix site to finish it up.  You can't have Netflix on more than about five devices so the set up is pretty much universal (only exception is the PC, as far as I know).

It goes like this:  Turn on Netflix.  Number pops up on screen.  Go to Netflix (different URL for Wii/PS3/360) and type in the number.  Same for all three systems.

Thats not the way I had to do it. I just entered in my username and password and it loaded right up for me.

But.....I can't be wrong......this does not compute......this does....not......compute.......I'm going to Netflix and un-registering my PS3 just so I can register it again!!  Right now!  I'll show you guys.  I'll show you all!!*

I don't know what the hell just happened to my PC and phone but VGChartz is taking forever to load on my PC and won't let me post on my phone (until just now).

Anyway, I was wrong.

I went to Netflix.com and deactivated Netflix on my PS3 and 360.  I then went to the PS3 and tried to use Netflix.  It asked for my email address and password (for identity theft purposes, I assume).  I was back to watching movies in about ten seconds.

Then, I went to my 360 to fire up Netflix.  It gave me a seven digit code that I had to type in at www.netflix.com/activate.  I typed in the code and was back to watching movies in about 13 seconds.

So yeah.  I was wrong.  I assume the Netflix registration process changed for the PS3 when they went from disc based to disc free (or I'm just getting senile in my old age).  Still, both methods were quick and painless and didn't take a minute between firing up the app and getting the service.  I don't see how this could possibly be a problem for anybody that wanted to use Netflix on either device.  In fact, I don't even see it being a factor for anybody that only owns one device.

Also, beware of my wrath.  I shall unleash the Weather Dominator (I took it from Cobra after they were defeated by G.I. Joe) on this world in the very near future.  You shall all learn to fear the name of D21!!

i honestly think psn is better than 360, at least in the UK.

Well xbox has a lot of young children who will not know how to use that service. The older demop of the PS3 fits right in with that service. Simple when you think about it.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

I read about this a few days ago.

I wonder if we can expect our Netflix rates to go up because of this.

Here in the U.S., Nexflix rates have increased.  In fact, there is now a Netfix streaming only option for like $8 USD monthly.

Yeah it raised by a dollar, I am currently on a 2-disc at a time plan and live in the US.

I was just curious if this new info would raise our rates further.

funny for me it's a bit cut in rates from back when I was a subscriber. I used to pay a little over 18 a month for unlimited discs. That was around the time the started streaming and I could only watch 18 hours of streaming a month. Now I can stream unlimited although don't have any discs although even if I did it would still be much cheaper than what I used to pay.

I remember those days too. 1 hour of streaming per dollar paid per month.

That was also back in the days when renting Blurays costed you nothing extra. That is if they still cost extra per month.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
