Nintendo doesn't care much about developing revivals, new games, or different games. And why would they when the only things that sell are crap with Mario themes? We get one unique title or adventure about every two years. Kid Icarus is the revival, and that Pandora's Tower is the unique game for this year or so. After this, it'll be a half dozen or more things stuffed with Mario.
It's good to know that others found GX to be a little too "hard" due to some weird control issues. I actually just picked GX up a few weeks ago for the first time, and found it kinda madening. The drift just never does what I expect it to do. I loved the original and X, but I just can't seem to get a hang of GX. I would be happy to see a new one, but some tighter controls and better course design would be great.

LISTEN TO THE FIRST WORLD PODCAST REAL GAMERS, REAL AWESOME
Kylie, I'm not sure how into racing games you are, but good ones have a head crushing amount of depth to them well worth a full price investment. GX definitely had its problems but X and the original F-Zero were both incredible. Value both perceived and real is definitely there as long as they don't hand the series off to inferior developers again.
Wide and varied vehicle selection, depth of mechanics, track personality (Rol is right here, GX was lacking badly), and many other elements including any future developments like track building, racer development, online leagues, and vehicle building (that doesn't suck) would all suffer.
F-Zero is a pioneer racing series and my personal favorite so to see it get butchered would be like asking you to accept the idea of RE becoming a text adventure. F-Zero being a download game, that's kind of a head scratcher any way you slice it--unless you think all racing games deserve to be download only.
I hope they pump a ton of money into F-Zero and see how mind blowing they can make it.
Maybe it comes from being old enough to remember the SNES and F-Zero at launch, but there really was nothing like it. Look up "racing game 1991" on youtube or do some research on games that came out the same year. It wasn't a minor jump or even just cosmetic like SD to HD, it was the first racing game where you weren't going on a straight line that occasionally curved to give the illusion you were driving--there was a real, actual track underneath you.
The series, aside from its great speed and great personality, really has a natural ability to knock some heads back if done right. Hell, GX graphically still looks good to this day and F-Zero X still handles better than a lot racing games made today.
The game has a natural ability (due to its setting and speed) to really knock some heads back. This is probably the worst racing game you could pick outside of Gran Turismo to make into a download game.

i would like to see this happen, especially on 3DS i think my mind would be blown, FYI just because a game is DL doesnt mean that it is any less fun than retail games, ive played some DL games that are just as fun as retail ones. Hell Wipeout HD has a good deal of content and is DL, if people are ignorant and think that DL equals 2nd rate, thats their problem and loss. But im not saying F-zero should be DL
Reading all the comments on this thread is really changing my view of F Zero. I never knew there was such a consensus among fans that GX had problems, and that X was F-Zero done right.
Seeing as this is my first generation as a console owner and serious gamer, it makes sense that I'm probably a bit lacking in the skillz department when it comes to fast, dexterous operation of a controller. I've probably blamed my own skills more often than not when a game didn't control like I expected. Coming back to some games like Rogue Squadron and GX after having put them aside for a few years, I am beginning to see how my perception is changing over time due to experience.
Sometimes this means my past fond memories of certain games are ruined in this manner, when I realize I didn't understand them well enough or that my standards were not very refined. Hopefully this process is for the better. As long as there are always enough good games available to play I should be alright.
(Also, I guess now wouldn't be the best time to bring the DK Jungle Beat bongos out of the closet

gumby, part of the problem with GX was they made it so inaccessible that most people never bothered to really dig that deep. You can definitely tell SEGA made it because rather than ease you into the game gradually they basically just beat you over the head with it until you either quit or master it. So a lot of problems you'll start to notice when you get a real feel for the game, but obviously you can't get a real feel for the game or really even want to if every time you jump on you never feel any real progress.
To give you an idea of how frustrating they made the game, the Story Mode Chapter 7 run was done by some beta tester they just had run the same race over and over again for months as his job. 8 hours of that 1 track a day over and over for MONTHS until he utterly mastered it. His best run is the one you have to beat. Shit like that isn't just adding challenge--it's a dick move.
So given the way they approached the game it's no wonder it sold like shit, and of the people that did buy it, my guess is a very small percentage bothered to master it. I'm willing to bet not even 50% of the people that bought it even unlocked the Diamond Cup.

Looks like it's not too hard in fact to come up with a good idea for a new F-Zero, despite what Nintendo have said on the subject. Seems to me what fans of the series want (based on this thread) is an F Zero X game with GX graphics and online.
anything else to add to the list of requests?
