It will be interesting to see how MS and Sony respond to the New Wii 2/Project Cafe.  MS has be very innovative with it's consoles, and they put 3 CPUs in before it was popular and it's held up well in the past 6 years.  I'm sort of hoping MS launches last and like it's first console is significantly more powerful than everything else out there with a Solid State Drive, Multiple CPU and whatever DirectX 12 is, HD Kinect or better.

well xbox started way before ps3 so that is meaningless if ps3 came b4 since the name sony it would have been around 5-6 mill ahead of xbox but since impatiant gamers decided they wanted a new console straight away they missed out xbox only did well this gen because there console got released b4 sony because we all know how much the original xbox failed since it got released after sonys playstation 2 so now ps3 has closed the gap big time they need to release there console b4 microsoft so they will be the king of gaming again

sorry i just dont like new guys microsoft havn't proven to me that they deserve to make console since all there console did this gen was made devolopers lazy and ported bad graphicall games to sony *sigh*

PS3 was the underdog here, and will probably overtake before even wii2 comes out.

Also, I wonder if we align the ps3 with the ps2 in terms of revenue. I bet more has been spent by consumers on the ps3 at this point in time, than on the ps2. So regardless of whether or not 360 has gained a better foothold, I don't think ps3 has really lost anything besides their own profits, which is questionable when matched with a video format which will continue for another 10 years or so. Time will tell, as it always does.

Since when was the PS3 the underdog? The follow up to the console which sold 150M vs the console which sold 25M and you're calling the former the underdog?! I think you're a little confused...

This years line-up for the PS3, along with a huge price-cut will change all that.

If SONY play their cards right, I reckon they could overtake the XBOX 360 by Christmas.

will the Cafe offer anything more substantial than what the PS3 and 360 offer, if not then i dont think the PS3 and 360 are irrelevant at all.

I have to agree with Brendude here. What makes you so sure that it won't happen this year? Looking at the YOY trends I'd say it's somewhat likely, especially as far as shipments are concerned. Last year PS3 outshipped 360 by 2.2 million units. Most likely PS3 will have its peak year this year and more than likely 360 will be at least marginally down on last year. If the combined YOY decline of the 360 and gain of the PS3 amounts to just 700k units than PS3 will pass 360 this year, and I'm pretty confident in saying that PS3 alone will be up by more than a million units.
