360 is been a great success for MS. 2008 can only get bigger.



End of 2008 predcition:

Wii: 34 million

360: 23-26.5 million

PS3: 15-18 million

This is one of the most laughable statistics people draw out. Most consoles launch at $250 and have their first price drops in 1 year. They usually have 80% of their lifetime at a mass market price. I have serious doubts that MS will even have the baseline arcade at $199 for the 4th Christmas. The premium might hit $199 for Christmas 5,probably the same time the 720 gets launched. No this will be the greatest problem with the 360.


Also, according to the Wii fans, PS3 and 360 will never sell well regardless of price. And a statement in Nintendo's favor is a solid one, as we all know.

PS: The X-Box had horrid sales despite being the cheapest console all along last gen...


 

we are not discussing only about success: we are discussing about when a console has its best year...and usually this happens to be the year when it hits mass market price.

 The launch price of the PS2 was ludicrous in many peoples eyes. X-Box tried the most price drops and practically gave away box's in the end, at least here in Norway.

A slim PS2 with bundled games and two pads still costs around 250$ here in Norway.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

please tell me the percentage of sales after this price drop out of that 40 million in US...then walk in front of a mirror and look at a noob.

 

so let's take the first 18 months of sales (before price drop) and the following 18 months...you'll find that PS2 sales actually increased by 50%: the best years came AFTER hitting mass market price.
