A decently priced Blu ray player that can also do Netflix? Oh and it plays games too.

This isn't to undermine the PS3 or anything, but I really think the PS3 is on top right now by default. It is basically the least flawed console at the moment. Xbox 360 has few new games for it, and Kinect is plummeting towards inevitable irrelivency without any new games released for it. PSP is becoming outdated aside from Japan, eclipsed by DS and 3DS. And Nintendo in general has taken a turn for the worse lately with all its platforms, reverting back to its hardcore ways while ignoring the mass market, which has marginalized their fan base to a small niche.

So basically, I don't exactly see PS3 as doing the best right now, but at doing the least that is wrong. The industry is in a sad state right now, as all three companies are either standing by idly or making dumb moves.

If PSP is outdated out of Japan, what is the 3DS in EMEAA??

Newly launched.

The Wii did 61,000 in EMEAA in its 9th week (the weeks before were influenced by the holiday season)
The DS did 47,000 in EMEAA in its 6th week.
The Ps3 did roughly 40,000 in its 6th week.
The X360 was selling ~ 40,000 in the period in week 10 (the period before that was influenced by the holiday season).

Simply put, the 3DS isn't an instant success out of the gate, but practically no video game machines ever are.

Yeah, but why would you call the PSP outdated in EMEAA if it's selling better than a Nintendo handheld that just launched?

PSP has been out for awhile and has an plethora of games in its library built up over the years. 3DS really has no major games out right now aside from another Nintendogs and a Layton sequel. It simply needs more games. So the difference is PSP is aging, while 3DS is barely in its fetal stage right now.

And to think it will only take PS3 around 12 years to catch the Wii

Exclusives. That's all I have to say. I'm happy to see the PS3 doing so well even through the whole PSN disaster that's been going on. I thought the sales were going to plummit but they're actually staying consistant and the sales have been holding up extremely well through this.

If anyone turns away a console because they're online is having troubles - then you don't deserve to be considered a "gamer." It's a shame that online has become such a necessity now for people to even enjoy a console or game. What have I done throughout this whole s**t storm? I've beaten a few games, had a Black Ops lan party going last night and just tried making the best out of my console while this whole thing clears up.

Because it came after the highest selling console of all time and because Sony has excellent logistics especially in 2nd/3rd world markets where Microsoft/Nintendo barely have the same presence. You have to remember that the PS2 has sold 36 million since the PS3 was out in addition to another 120 million before the release of the PS3.

This. PS2 was marketed and sold in more markets. People will tend to buy products they are familiar with, and Sony was able to get a foot hold in these markets with the PS2. Very good move by them. Xbox was discontinued, due to problems with Nvidia, so MS was never able to provide a cheap gaming console in these emerging markets.

Maybe.

But remember Xbox 360 and Wii were launched almost two years before PS2 here in Brazil... PS3 was launched six months after PS2.

Sony was the last to arrive here and officially sold more.

I think India is also helping build the PS3 some steam, PS2 did decent in the area and Sony has some footing in India with their SET channel, and also there are quite the good amount of "ballers" in the country and the richer some of these people get the more and more they will purchase PS3s and such

I am no good at grammar =)

DAMN IT! This EP is such a good idea

It's the best console on the market right now?  I mean, the Wii is loosing steam faster than......a steam losing thingy.  The 360 isn't pumping out nearly as many exclusive games as it used to so it's not making people want to rush out and pick one up (I don't know why it's still kicking so much ass in America, to be honest) aside from the awesome Kinect peripheral.  For now, the PS3 is where it's at.

360 doing great in America and mediocre/shitty everywhere else can't overcome PS3 doing good in America and pretty good/great everywhere else.

What is it with American's and their XBOX's? Do Microsoft have magical marketing techniques or something?

Kinda like the PSP's popularity in Japan.

I love how EU is completely neutral though, they are all literally selling the same.
