Forums - Gaming - If it was Microsoft or Nintendo being hacked would it be as bad?

Well Sony has admitted that their network was not the most secure and that alot of information wasn't even protected by a firewall or encryption. The lack of security is suprising , I don't think Sony was prepared for such a breach and were caught off guard. Though I bet that is why PSN has been offline so long, Sony is doing the best they can to improve security so this can't happen again and that takes time!

Microsoft I am guessing having alot more experiance with online networks and dealing with hackers would be far more prepared to deal with this situation. I doubt hackers would be able to cripple Live and if they got some info it wouldn't be that serious of a breach. Microsoft has a great security team and I doubt this scenerio could have occured if the target had been Microsoft.

Nintendo on the other hand is very in-experianced. I doubt the security for Nintendo's online network is all that much better then Sony. I wouldn't be suprised if hackers were able to cripple Nintendo's network and get vital information. But then again Nintendo is probably reacting to this news of Sony's breach and fixing any flaws in their security. But I think hackers probably could have gotten into Nintendo if they had been the target.

I'm sure MS doesn't run an unupdated linux server with no firewall

ya, microsoft runs windows server 2011 with a firewall... which means its probably easy to hack as its a windows firewall. only thing saving it is there are so few people running windows servers few have experience hacking them.

Curious thing: MS runs Windows on its servers, but Akamai site mirroring, caching, load balancing, DDoS protection and other services, that MS hires regularly, run on Linux and other OS' (currently they use often Citrix machines using Linux as host OS and Xen virtual-machine monitor, on which many OS', including Windows, can run as guests).

Pure and pointless speculation. Really people at least some speculation has a point other than allowing people to talk about how great their company of choice is and to further degrade Sony just because they don't like the company.

If anyone hack Nintendo online services, then it really is for the lulz. There's nothing to steal.

Everyone's just a string of random 16 characters to Nintendo.

Tell you what though if this was MS, this site would have a whole different additude. Plus you got people convinced that it was anonymous when clearly anonymous brags about what they do. So I think at this point people need someone to blame. I wouldn't be surprized if SONY  put that anonymous note in there there self. Kinda helps to blame someone so you actually look like you have some clue what you are doing.

If this was Microsoft the shit storm would be epic. If it was Nintendo there would probably be less commotion then there is now with Sony.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

For MS a bit worse, due to the Red Ring of Death fiasco and the fact you pay for the service.

Ninty not too sure

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

I love company apologist fanboys. It's so cute yet so pathetic.

No-one is trying to 'degrade' Sony. No need to get so defensive.

Is Sony your lover or something?

This is the reaction to majority gamers if MS and Nintendo got their network hacked...

Microsoft - "wtf we pay for this $#!t and this happens!? Where the hell does our money go?!"

Nintendo - "I dont even use online."

...dont take this seriously lol
