Is Nintendo putting too much faith in the third party?

Yes third party will abandon Nintendo 59 48.36%

No we must have faith in them 51 41.80%

Nintendo is doomed with o... 12 9.84%

Total:122

Iwata said that they aren't  releasing some of their games because they want to see when third parties are gonna release their games so they won't compete with them as much. This is good for third partys if any of them were releasing games AAA or even AA games right now but they aren't. None of the third partys are releasing any games in the near future worth getting. And we only have vauge promises of games by developers in the distant future.

It looks to me that third party devolpers are also waiting for to see if the 3ds will be worth developing for. And now that the 3ds isn't having the sales everyone expected they are not gonna jump onto what appears to be a sinking ship. Third parties are waiting to see who will "win" the handheld wars this gen before they invest too much into Nintendo. Which is what they did last gen.

Nintendo seems to believe that third party developers will stick by thier word and make games for the 3ds. Not everyone keeps their word and just because we saw demos at E3 doesn't mean they can't scrap the game at any time. Just look at  how Capcom scraped the half completed RE2 when they thought it won't be any good. Or how we recently found out Star fox 2 was complete and Nintendo scraped that. So these verbal promises thrid party developers made to Nintendo to support the system doesn't mean anything at all.

So it's a catch 22 Nintendo is waiting for third party to release games before releasing their own games which causes 3ds sales to slow down. While third partys are waiting for 3ds sales to pick up before releasing their games.

Shouldn't this mean that nintendo should release one of their system sellers now like Zelda(not a glorifed port), Pokemon, Super mario, Mario Kart, or even star fox. Iwata said that they were releasing them this Fiscal year so are they gonna wait until it's too late for the 3ds to make a splash because if they do then the NGP will take over and that's where the third parties will go.

The idea of NGP taking over is unlikely, unless Sony subsidizes the hell out of it to keep it price-competitive, it's going to have all the negatives the 3DS has only moreso, namely expense

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

3DS will pick up again once Nintendo releases Mario Kart and a few other of their IPs.  Third party games that look to be good on the 3DS will be the RE and MG series.  Anyways, Nintendo should try and cater third party companies but they shouldn't revolve too much of their strategy around them.  Nintendo's games sell their systems.  Having good third party support is an afterthought to me.  If the third party companies want to be lazy and release crap for a system then they deserve low sales.  If they actually put effort into the game then it will sell.  A good Wii example would be MH3.  The first two Monster Hunter games didn't even sell 1 million combined on a system that had a much larger consumer base.  MH3 will surpass 2 million probably by the end of the year or so.  MH3 should have been the model for third parties companies producing games for the Wii.

The thing is, 3rd parties supported the DS because it reasonably met most of their needs as a handheld. The Wii did not do that because of low power and barebones online.

If Project Cafe really embraces the industry with its console functions, there is no doubt in my mind that they will support it fully. The only reason the concept is so foreign to us is because Nintendo has not been this open to outside help, EVER. For the NES and partly the SNES, 3rd parties had no choice but to support Nintendo.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

If he really said that, Iwata is full of shit. The only question would be if he was lying, or just incompetent. I choose to believe that something got horribly mangled in translation.

Iwata:

“We want the other companies to be successful,” he emphasized to another investor. “In order to accomplish this goal, we would like to decide on the dates [of Nintendo software] after we know the release plans of other companies’ games so that we are able to consider how we can maximize the sales of our titles without affecting the sales of other companies in the short term.”

This is the quote I was referring to. It's not that it's a bad idea to do this. It's just to early to do this kind of think when system sales already aren't where they need to be or where they want them to be.

I feel better. It's ambiguous and open-ended enough that I can pretend he meant Nintendo would release its games far enough in advance to blaze a trail, and then let third-parties fill in gaps while they recharge. Yes, that must be what he meant. It's not perfect, but I'll take it.

LOL.

The way I read that it's like you are trying hard to convince yourself.
