The thing is, 3rd parties supported the DS because it reasonably met most of their needs as a handheld. The Wii did not do that because of low power and barebones online.
If Project Cafe really embraces the industry with its console functions, there is no doubt in my mind that they will support it fully. The only reason the concept is so foreign to us is because Nintendo has not been this open to outside help, EVER. For the NES and partly the SNES, 3rd parties had no choice but to support Nintendo.
