I think I'm in the 50% that thinks the 3ds is just a DS with 3D..I played a demo unit at Bestbuy and I wasnt impressed by it, In My Opinion it looks cheap, meaning its made by cheap parts like, the built-in camera, low-res screens, I mean The Zune HD outputs hi-rez graphics so does the many smartphones, what about the audio speakers? my cellphone has a louder and crisspy sound than the 3DS
The NPG looks like it will have tons of potentials as a multi-media device, GPS anyone? larger hi-res screens, built-in gyroscope, touch pad, full blown browser..Cant wait for Sony to bring the next big update that will give you the option to download the Firefox browser with flash player 10 or better.
If I can play full PS3 games (not to metion all of its multi-funtions) on the NPG through 'REMOTE PLAY" on a NPG 3g model (wi-fi models you have to search for hotspots for out doors connections) via internet, that alone will be a mayor point for me to buy one..

Immortal said: I figure Nintendo will end up with about 90% marketshare this time around. Featurewise, I don't see anything close to an advantage for NGP in terms of mass market appeal, especially if 3D catches on. Gamewise, Sony couldn't even dream to be comparable to Nintendo in handhelds. Pricewise, Nintendo wins - they're making 3DSs for $100 a pop for goodness's sake! Supportwise, NGP looks to be a few notches below PSP as far as advantage over Nintendo is concerned since the 3DS is getting good support from the start as well. |
90%? I HIGHLY doubt it will get anywhere near that. At the very most, it will be similar to this gen, around ~ 70%. The only way Sony could possibly surrender that much marketshare with the support they are currently getting in Japan, and to a lesser extent EMEAA, would be to release the NGP for ~$399 and refuse to lower the price for a year or so.
Decided to give life to this old thread, especially since Sony just announced the NGP/Vita price. $249!! The exact same price as the 3DS. I'm going to have to change my prediction a little.
It seems Sony has bested my price prediction. With the Vita's price point + great 3rd party support + the 3DS not so stellar sales of late, I think Sony can get more of the market than my original prediction of ~50% (I was mainly thinking somewhere around the ballpark of 40%-48%). Now, I'm feeling pretty confident that Sony, if they continue with their Vita support, can actually be the first company to best Nintendo in the handheld market, claiming 60%-70% marketshare. What do you guys think?
That's ridiculous.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
Man I just finished reading all of this and it was really funny.
Vita looking to have less than 25% marketshare at this rate.
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)
It's quite funny looking back at this. How things sure change!
