Forums - Sales - Do we really expect that 3DS sales will rise up high with OOT3D release?

I am just curious to know how users here feel honestly.

I have seen the sales drop. I have seen Nintendo's own numbers which I (Don't quote me on this) believe are still lower than VGChartz numbers.

I have also seen people say things like "Well, it will rise once Zelda comes out".

However I personally do not agree. Why would a port of a N64 title cause the 3DS to rocket up to much higher sales?

The thing is still so expensive while having ancient touchscreen tech all while at the same time having features that work against each other (3D gaming and motion support. Can't have both at once.)

Anyone disagree with me and truly believe that OOT3D will drive 3DS sales?

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

I'd think 2-3 weeks of resonable boost (maybe even doubling on first week) and after that it will return to previous levels.

I think the same. I believe it will probably have a slight boost but then drop down the where it is now or even lower if it continues its current trend.

Agree with this. Ocarina of Time won't save the 3DS, but it will give it a good boost. However, I don't expect Super Mario 3D to save the 3DS either. 2D Mario and Mario Kart will most likely be the ones to give the 3DS a significant boost.

I don't believe this zelda game is going to boost the 3ds in the long term. At best, maybe a month.

So basically games drive up hardware. Simple as that isn't it. Personally I don't get why people are jumping the gun on this site. Nintendo own numbers are stated at 16 million for the first year. With the one problematic Wii forecast of the last FY, they are typically inline with what they predict.

Personally maybe I should just avoid 3DS threads, and the eventual NGP threads (if that device does not sell like hotcakes). Sony related threads seem to be only addressing PSN problems, and those are starting to get out of hand (given the DOOM for PS3 thread was actually funny)  Guess Microsoft and Offtopic is all that I have left :(

More importantly I think it will establish a new fanbase who will experience this amazing game for the first time. A new generation of Nintendien.

I think it will cause a decent sized boost in hardware sales

But will it raise 3DS sales to the level that many people expected over a prolonged period of time? No

I don't think it is suddenly going to cause 3DS sales to skyrocket and remain there long term. But I haven't really seen anyone suggesting that it will either. I think OoT will have far and away the highest 1st week sales of a 3DS game yet. I think it will give a big boost for 2-3 weeks. But I think OoT is important because it will show if new software releases are what is needed to boost 3DS sales, or if sales are low because of a complete lack of interest in the system itself. If OoT can cause a significant boost for 2 weeks, then that will be promising for when a consistent batch of games starts releasing (like Resident Evil, Star Fox, etc.).  If OoT only causes a minimal 3DS hardware boost for the 1st couple weeks then the 3DS is going to struggle in hardware sales for awhile.

You, lovable naive thing you.

I swear, if you wasn't for you liking Sweeney Todd as much as I do I'd probably already strangled you with my FFXIII booklet.
