I went to see it, and bought an English flag (yes, St George's Cross) just to be different.

I really do not understand my country's love for the Royal Family. They do nothing. They take away tens of millions of pounds every day from the elected government and splurge it on fancy uniforms, dozens of servants and the occasional air show. They could not be futher distanced from the average British person, and the lot of them are spoilt, stuck-up and arrogant. Hell, they don't even lead us into battle any more.

And despite this, we had over a million people lining the streets just to get a glimpse of Prince William and Princess Catharine standing on a balcony.

It's a part of British history, yes. That's why I can sort of understand excitement at, say, a coronation. I'm sure I would be somewhat excited as well, because it would be a new supreme leader of the country being appointed. But to be this excited about a largely symbolic wedding with no actual significance, except that maybe in 40 years or so Catharine will be Queen Consort and do precisely nothing, is... rather odd, don't you think?

EDIT: I will add that it's lovely that something can peacefully unite the country like this, so perhaps it's better not to complain.

I tought Royal family is in charge of England, is it not?

1) Nobody is in charge of England, unfortunately.

2) De jure, the Sovereign is the head of state of the United Kingdom. However, if she tried to exercise any of her theoretical powers against the will of the elected government, she would probably be forced to abdicate, and if it went on long enough, the monarchy would be abolished.

For some reason I watched the movie prequel on Channel 5 round a friend's house.

And is it me or are liberals questioning how being patriotic from time to time is somewhat bad?

Kates dress was really pretty and i thought they looked great together. However I missed the kiss because I fell asleep which saddened me but I should be able to see it on the news.

I don't get it. Here in the U.S. pretty much every news channel is talking about the wedding. But as a democratic nation we don't believe in monarchies.

But as a nation ruled by pop culture, you guys definately believe in pseudocelebrities.

I went to Kelvingrove Park with my friend for a picnic because there was a "garden party" going on. Not that most of the people there cared much what the reason for the party was, and obviously because we were all there no-one watched the ceremony. So for that, I'm glad it was a bank holiday.. Really just an excuse for a party and a day off.

As for the royal family, I wouldn't wish any individual harm but collectively they're a  bunch of horse-faced inbreds who have no purpose outside of attracting tourism andproviding American tv with something to parody.

I enjoyed it.

People, a monarchy provides people with a better sense of identity and pride. I would take bullets for the Queen.
