No, I don't see it happening. I think this year Wii will still be #1 with price cut and HW, and next year 3DS will hit its stride and NGP/Wii2 will take many sales. I don't see the PS3 having one, and I see it being down this year also.

Sony did great in 2009. Their only bad things were the PSP Go and even with the Slim sales the Wii still beat them out overall in hardware sales and took the holiday sales handlily. Microsoft dominated in 2010 with Kinect, 360 Slim. Their only shortfall was not enough 360 exclusives for the last 6 months. The PS3 is leading the way in 2011 though, so this year might be the Year of the PS3. Decent hardware sales, lots of good and great exclusives for the next 7 months. They need to win the holiday though. They need to get the PSN fixed and secure. They do those things, they are on track to win 2011.

Also, Zelda release, good promotion and another strong holiday and I think it could just pip them. As long as it remains within 1.5mil of the PS3 and 1mil of the 360 by November, which it looks as though it will do comfortably, I think the Wii can get number 1 spot this year.

It's already down by 650k vs the PS3 (probably substantially more once the dust settles from adjustments).  It is down 1.34 million in shipments versus the 360.  It is going to need to make up quite a large amount in October/November to be that close in December.

Plus the PS3/360 will likely get price cuts, as well as a number of games during the holiday season.

A pricecut is worthless unless it comes with either a) Meaningful SW or b) a hardware revision.

Considering it's looking like the Wii cut is coming in a Month, and the only meaningful title releasing within the Month is Wii Play 2... That cut doesn't look like it's going to help in the last 2 Months of the Year.

Rumors/Facts of Cafe will also harm the Wii.

A pricecut to the 360 is likely to come soon after the Wii cut (E3), just to maintain the hold the 360 has now on the casuals in America. A pricecut will also come to the PS3 later in the Year (Gamescom), that is IF Sony actually want to win and not go for pure profit.

Now if you say a pricecut drives sales, and we all know that with a pricecut you must have compelling SW, then you must realise that the Wii is not in exactly the best position this Year. Especially after Nintendo themselves expect only 13 Million Wii's within the next 12 Months...

but i do think that there is a possibility of it over taking the Wii at some point or the gap being in wiis favor by only 10-15M i havent decided to make my official threads for it just yet
