1.7 million.

Okay. So the PS2 shipped 1.7 Million for the Quarter in its 10th Year.

And... The Wii just shipped 1.37 Million.

I can't wait to see what it did come May.

Thanks!

The Wii actually did worse this quarter than the PS2 has ever (at least since it was released WW).  The worst quarter for the PS2 seems to be 1.4 million in January-March 2009.

And some here believe that the Wii could outsell PS2 lifetime, but now with the early announcement of the Wii 2 it is impossible.

I mentioned this in BHR's thread but with PS3 outshipping Wii in quarter 1 by at least 800k units and with Nintendo's 13 million projection it's pretty much a certainty that PS3 will come out on top this year among home consoles. I'm dying to see what Sony's projection will be. Too bad it's going to be a bit of a wait. I hate to be all doom and gloom but this would also appear to mean that Wii won't hit 100 million until mid to late 2012, particularly in terms of sell-through. I'm serriously starting to question where it might end up at. Less than 110 million? Obviously they don't expect price cuts to have much sustained effect.

Let's get to 90M first, when ever that will be, November?  they expect 99M end of march 2012 but I think they will manage 97M though.  Wii LT sales will be at least 104M.

all i can think about is the early days when the wii was outpacing the ps2 by a substaintial amount how people where calling on a minumum of 200M sales.  now it looks like it won't even outsell the ps2 and we're questioning 100M sales.  oh how the mighty has fallen.

200m, thats way too much, but there is no way wii wont reach 100m, 97-98 by mid 2012, 110m 2013... and I guess it would still sell a few millions after mid 2013... so 115m or so before it gets discontinued...

There's no way Wii sells 13 milion units from 2012 to 2013 after Wii 2 was released. This year they will make 10-11 milions at most and for next one they will be lucky to sell 7-8 milions after that Wii will drop like a stone into water as Nintendo doesn't have structure to push it Sony PS2 style.

I think there's a chance Wii won't outsell PS1.

I wonder if Sony PS2 shipments for this quarter will be higher than Wii shipments.

It's not going to drop off that quickly. 13 million is probably a safe bet for this calendar year assuming they hit their projection. Yes, sales will dry up relatively quickly once Wii2/Cafe comes out but there's still room for at least 1 more price cut which should be enough to give it at least another 10 million lifetime. And besides that, it would be the ultimate indignity for Nintendo if they didn't at least beat PS1. They'll probably keep the console around long enough to do that at least.

i dunno, this last year was only 15M ... they are significantly down YoY weekly now ... the release schedule is dead WW already.  missing that 13M seems plausible to me.

I'm not so sure, Nintendo predicted 18mil, then 17.5mil, then 16mil last fiscal year and only hit 15mil -- that 13mil could easily fall alot lower since 3rd parties will/are abondoning the Wii and Nintedno's first party is going to be busy with 3DS and N6 software.

Wii will easily surpass PS1, le'ts say it does 12M in fiscal year, so 98M then let's say 8M, so it will do 106M in the future so it will beat PS1, price cut and few more software will help this.
