The writing was on the wall for the so called free PSN when Microsoft demonstrated that customers will pay for the service. This leaves Sony figuring out how they are going to squeeze some sheckals from the PSN base and I think at the moment it is fair to say they still have not figured it out but PSN was not the golden goose.
Will this outage impact the plight of the free service? I sincerely doubt it although it obviously is costing them a lot in reputation and effort right now.
I am not sure what argument is being put in front of the investors as to why their service does not make money in the same way the rivals does but it must be compelling but for how much longer?
It is pretty clear that for some the free online play was one of the bigger draws but what is not so clear is by how much... Also do they really want to get into another PR disaster by removing another feature, I can only imagine the furor if they did.
They will wait but it will come...
