Forums - Gaming - Vgchartz ranking game--Mass Effect 2!!

7

What I liked:

- Interesting cast of characters .

- Wonderful art style.

- Amazing soundtrack. (Jack Wall is effin' awesome!)

- satisfying gunplay.

- Some of the loyalty missions were awesome.

- Top notch voice acting.

- Badass Ending.

What I didn't like:

- Streamlined RPG elements. I didn't feel invested in the characters as much as the first game.

- Mako. Yeah, I'm one of the few people who actually liked the Mako missions. Sure the controls were kinda wonky but it needed to be fixed, not completely removed.

- Level design. The levels feel much smaller compared to the first game. Way too many linear, narrow corridors and conveniantly placed chest-high walls completely break immersion. It's hard to explain but the first game actually gave you the feeling that you're part of huge alien worlds. ME2 fails to do that.

- The game never forces the player to pick different choices even though Bioware kept raving about how my choices matter. The paragon choice is always the right choice. The game never gives you a compelling reason to pick a different choice.

- I felt some of the elements in the story didn't make a whole lot of sense. e.g The T-1000 Reaper, seriously what the hell was that?

- The mining mini-game. nuff said.

Overall, pretty good game but I didn't like it as much as the first.

Cons:

Maybe game was better later so dont count my score.

9.4

My favorite game this gen. Just brilliant!

I'm rating it next to other BioWare RPG's.

Pros -

Characters (Wrex, Tali and Garrus)
Story of the Series
Normandy
Choices in ME1 having an effect. Even if they are minimal.

Cons -

Combat system
More of a TPS than an RPG
Loot, or lack of it...
Mining for minerals.
Paragon/Renegade system. I dislike how it makes it obvious what is good, and what is bad.
Not being able to explore new planets with the Mako.

I give the game an 8/10

8.5/10

Pros

- Looks great, character detail makes the presentation.

- Interesting lore.

- Great dialogue

- Enjoyed interacting with the characters.

Cons

- Voices go out of sync sometimes and it really breakes the experience, it's worse when it's such an interesting and dialogue driven games.

- Choices didn't feel like they mattered that much in the end, way too many light or dark situations, which is a shame for a game that focuses on choices.

- Controls are clunky, they are mostly passable, but sometimes it can just stuff up and I'd die, it's not good when a third person shooter doesn't control very well. Dark Sector played better.

- Mining sections, while optional, are really boring and they take way too long.

I'm ranking the game as a story driven shooter, if I was going to rank it as an RPG, then I'd give it a 6, but I don't think Bioware tried developing an RPG, so I wont judge it based on what I think it should be.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Damn, I want to see Khuutra post here.

Ok, here's my take:

PROS

- Great voice acting

- Loyalty missions were great

- Game story is very good (the whole thing about the genophage alone was awesome)

- Great graphics

- Playing on the hardest difficulty is awesome when you learn to use the powers right (game is well designed/balanced)

- Amazing Soundtrack ( I still isten to Suicide Mission almost everyday)

- "I am the very model of a salarian scientist"

CONS

- A bit too streamlined

- Has middle child complex (but thats what happens when you are the second game of a trilogy)

- Some characters are annoying (ex. Jacob)

- Completely linear

- The whole paragon/renegade choices are often too clear-cut (no shades of grey)

SCORE: 9.0

Great game. The ME universe is definitely one of the most engrossing of the generation. (Coming from someone who's not a big fan of sci-fi.) The music is just damn good, and I like the more shooter-esque combat of ME2 to that of the original ME. (Though I appear to be the odd man out on that one.)

I'm usually not a fan of cinematic games, because more often than not their replay value isn't exactly through the roof. But I can definitely see myself playing this game again multiple times. (Only gotten around playing it from start to finish once.)

The game isn't faultless, though. The mining is teeeedious, and though I like the combat, it's not irreproachable, by any means. It's strong, but doesn't hold up against dedicated third person shooters like Gears or Vanquish. (But that's not to be expected from a RPG anyway.)

Still, it's a damn great game, and deserves no less than a...

Will you be doing any PC exclusives in the future??

Probably not...I can't see most PC games getting the required 15 votes. Although I could do Starcraft 2, WOW and the likes since i'm pretty sure most everyone has played them.

A great game, but not as many RP elements as the first one and overall a more "action/third person shooting" moments. Not a fan of the gameplay to be quite honest but still a solid 8.
