Tell them, and if they do something terrible, like loving you less, tell them it is very unchristian of them and see how they handle it then.

Haha, yes that should be funny, but I've ntoiced Christians are hypocrites in that regard.

I was actually kind of serious. Play by their rules and trap them in their own fallacious logic. If they persist just point out that they are doing an even more unchristian thing of putting what they thing is right vs what is taught by christianity. If you want to make it especially effective go read the bible and come prepared with specific excerpts to throw in their face.

I know you were serious, but as I said, Christians tend to be hypocrites when it comes to this stuff. And they have an amazing talent at it.

THat is what I mean by persisting. Call them hypocrites and lay out on the table exactly why.

Okay well I'm a christian as well and I think if you don't want to belive in any sort of god it's absoltley fine. Everyone has there own opinon if I wanted to be an atheinst my parents might argue with me for a bit but at the end of the day it really doesn't matter. If your parents love you and you love your parents that's the thing that matters most. Just go on and tell your parents the same way you told us. Belive me you'll feel like you lost 100 pounds once you told them the truth. So go on and tell your parents the truth.

Wow it's nice to see a Christian who's actually nice and trying to be helpful, unlike some other people  who posted on here trying to insult atheists (they know who they are). Thank you!

Hehe, I will  try that if it's needed when the time comes.

Athiest have more open opinions, Relgious people think that god did this and no way around it.

Atheist people think God didnt do this and no way around it, so? It still makes people think thier opinnion is right and everything else wrong

Nah, some may be like that but - just as religious people - the full range of fanaticism is represented, from very open to anal. I find most atheists' minds are more open than that. I mean, ok, maybe they're sure there's no God, but they're a lot less prejudicial of people who think otherwise (yea, depending on how far these people go), and that was the point.

Well, I cant generalize all atheist people but from my limited expeirence they are dangerously more agressive when it comes to thier beliefs.

Isn't what you think is right pretty much the definition of an opinion?

Yes it is, and?

Do you really think of your parents that lowly? In my experience, which isn't much to go on, admittedly, most seem to really underestimate their parents. You shouldn't necessarily assume that your parents are simple-minded just because they've got some beliefs indoctrinated into them that they don't question (even you do - your brain couldn't function without some assumptions to go on, I suspect), though, obviously, you know them far better. I really suggest you tell them plainly and respectfully that you don't believe in Christianity and haven't for a while and see how they take it.

I've never been in a similar situation, though. While I'm not even sure enough of what my beliefs are to question them, my parents are very open-minded about everything and would be very eager to discuss such subjects if I wanted to become an atheist.

Well, from my experience your experience isn't the norm :P

Either I've had good luck or you've had bad. Anyway in bith the atheist and religious camps the most annoying and vocal members are the ones who make the more resonable ones a name.
