Forums - Gaming - How often do you step out of your comfort zone as a gamer?

Everyone has their favorite genres and series in gaming but how often do you play a game that is completely out of the norm for you.

For me I do it quite often because I review for this webstie, I don't think I would have played Disney All Star Party, N- Strike Elite, or even Disgaea Infinite on my own but the new experience they each brought was welcome.

edit: how often? very rarely don't normally see them lot much anymore.

correct me if I am wrong
stop me if I am bias
I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).

Heck I play iPhone games... I don't have a norm... I'm a slut!  >_>

I love RPGs.  Everything from WRPGs to JRPGS, MUDS to MMOs.  This is just about all that i play.

I will pick up the occasional adventure/action game or even sports game.  I almost missed out on BGE on the PS2 just because of the type of game and it became one of my favorites.

Same goes for FPSs.  I am not a big fan, but I have definitely played a few that made me question my dislike of the genre.

FPS normally aren't my cup of tea but Metroid Prime 3 is one of my favorite games this gen and I'm probably going to end up picking up Portal 2. Also on another note I basically have Blazblue to thank for single handedly getting me into the fighter genre.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

I played tomb raider... because I heard it had better puzzles than uncharted. and now I like it more than uncharted. I dunno if that counts.

I played persona 3 because I say the guy evoking his head and I thought that was cool. So I went on another limb and I did play sakura wars. I don't want to say anything negative about it. But that type of JRPG is not my thing. I played it cause it got good reviews... and I didn't like it at all.

My comfort zone isn't really a particular genre, and it's hard to really classify what it is off the top of my head, but:

Whenever I step out of my comfort zone, I'm always extremely extremely disappointed. So I'm never doing it again. EVER.

I just know what kind of games I'll like and what kind I won't like, so I'll trust myself from now on.

I play all types of games as long as they are good. Whether i finish them or not is a different story.

Look at the games in my sig (last five games played on each console). Does it look like I have a comfort zone to you?
