Forums - Nintendo - Game Informer: Multiple Sources confirm new HD console at E3 for Nintendo

*Shrugs* Rumors are just rumors at this point. I mean, I remember back at E3 2008 when "Newton", Microsoft's motion controller, was supposed to be revealed.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be excited for a new Nintendo console when they actually reveal the thing, but I'm also having a grand ol' time with the Wii right now, despite claims of its death at this moment in time. 'Cause I just finished playing Donkey Kong Country Returns, Epic Mickey, and Sonic Colors... and man oh man... it didn't get much better than that.

I don't sense the excitement in this site as I feel elsewhere, this is huge if true.

Is that enough hype for you :D

N-not yet. D:

Don't worry though, I've got a whole week to myself (everyone else is on a Cruise while had to stay for school >_>), so I'm getting in some major game time.

I'm not pleased with Nintendo going with the "Keeping up with the Joneses" strategy as of late. Selling a dedicated gaming handheld at $250 is a joke and then you have Sony quickly countering with an even more powerful handheld (NGP) and you have Android smartphones with glasses-free 3D rumored to be coming out late this year. What's the point of trying to "keep up with the Joneses" when someone else is just going to come out with something more powerful anyway? Nintendo would be better served focusing on innovation, not graphical prowess. Especially when their main audience is children and the parents who buy the consoles and games for them. And the same goes for this Wii HD/Wii 2. Even if they were to launch it at like $300, what's the point of trying to woo the "core gamer" demographic with HD graphics when the PS4 and Xbox 720 will absolutely destroy the Wii HD/Wii 2 in the graphic department? Nintendo is just going to piss off all the people who bought a Wii for $200 recently. If Nintendo wanted to drum up more interest for the Wii, they should go with the price cut to $150 and have more first-party titles lined up. You don't just go by a calendar and say " a successor every 5-6 years". This generation has a lot more life in it than the last one. What's the point in cutting it's life short? To appease a bunch of "core" HD gamers that already have a PS3/360 to play their third-party HD games? Low-res graphics isn't killing the Wii. Nintendo's waning first-party support is killing the Wii.

lol none of the companies invented HD and it is a natural evolution to what things should be like. So you mean Sony copied MS by adding HD to their console as well? lol

Nintendo invents most of its stuff or adds stuff that never was used for games before so that can be called copy when others do the same

Of course it will have HD but not the same thing can be said about motion and analogue sticks and stuff. If it wasn’t for Nintendo we would probably still be playing with joysticks and a button till this day :P

Yes. Sony followed MS into the HD console market, just like Nintendo will be following them too.

And yes. We've heard for Years now that Sony/MS have copied Nintendo on those things too. This is why it's going to be funny when Nintendo go HD. Why it's kinda funny that Nintendo went Sony's route and put an analogue on the handheld.

I'm also pretty sure the Wii Remote wasn't "invented" by Nintendo, it was "invented" by Gyration Inc. Nintendo just got them to make a motion controller... Although I could be wrong. Anyway, it's not like Sony didn't dip into motion control with the PS2, even if that WAS a copy of something else.

All I'm saying is, it's gonna be funny watching the same people who attack Sony/MS try to defend Nintendo when they go HD

People, I think he's being serious...

Given inflation and exchange rates, $250 is easily what we paid for the DS as far as the Yen is concerned

Oh, and I can't believe how many of you are taking information from Game Informer without a grain of salt.

I am.  Big grain.  There is just as much evidence a new console won't be unveiled or that Nintendo is not yet done with the Wii.

Not with you on this one. Nintendo were done with the Wii in 2009.

I guess Donkey Kong Country, Kirby's Epic Yarn, XenoBlade, The Last Story, Skyward Sword, Pandora's Tower, etc...all just doesn't exist?

Or maybe they're just tiny compared to Nintendo's support in 2006-2008 and even the end of 2009. I mean, most of those games you listed aren't/won't even break a million.
