You mean the one where I said the WKC games were overtracked by a whole bunch and needed adjusting?

I'll give the Sony comment, but it's still not cool to tout shipments as though they were sales. It creates a false sense of demand, and that just makes a bubble. THAT is what I meant by getting back when the sales were actually that high. Then we know demand actually is that high, not just industry interest. |
Well, publishers don't care about sold to consumers numbers and they don't even know how much that number is. Most retailers don't report any sales to publishers (they don't report DVD, CD or other sale numbers to publishers either) because they don't have to so publishers can't even in theory know the exact sales. Pretty much all sales reported by publishers are sold-to-retailer.
And, really, publishers get the same money whether game is sold to consumer or not. If publisher sells game to retailer for 10 bucks and it sold to consumer for 100 bucks, publisher still gets only 10 bucks.

They are going to get sold eventually anyways....

Same here, gotta love some people, it's not like the first couple of lines aren't very clear this is shipped numbers not sold to consumer... and if VGC had 1m units sold we would have seen that last week...
It might be overshipping, it might need a little adjustment on VGC, it might be a little of both, but Capcom sold their million copies to retailers and that is something for them to celebrate.

Shipped numbers are much more important than sell-through. Publishers don't give a shit about sell-through numbers as they already made their bucks with the shipments. |
And as for not caring about shipments, that just implies many game companies care even less about the public, as that is who will be buying the games from retailers. And if retailers get burned by the public not wanting these games, Capcom will have trouble shipping as many games.
And I haven't actually cursed out anyone here. I've been stating my points. Stridently, but still stating them.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

No, it's not something to celebrate unless the consumer demand is also proven. If the game doesn't sell that well, then they overestimated demand, and then will likely find more reason to shun yet another Nintendo system.
And the thread title that you wrote does not use the word "shipped", so you have no business calling on us for assuming the information is misleading, as you are presenting it that way yourself.

Sorry that seller means seller, be it sold to consumer or retailer... if you assume that the thread was sold to consumer before you came in, then that's on you...
