Forums - Sales - Has Monster Hunter Surpassed Dragon Quest in Japan?

@blacksaber, we could actually go back and forth but it ruins the thread.

@carl, never did I think I would see the day, when you downright defended Nintendo

Back on topic, I truly wonder what the Franchise has in store. It is a growing franchise, so I have no doubt that Monster 4 will do better next installment most likely on the ps3, and Monster Hunter 4 Freedom on the NGP. I still think they will make Monster 3 title for the 3DS,because it suits expanding the audience.

Im just stating the fact, the PSP and PS3 have sold less units than their counterparts and yet their third-party games sell way better, in fact the biggest third-party franchise now happens to be on the PSP.

DX 8 and 9 were jokes compared to 7, it simply shows that abandoning the core gamer will do you good in the short term but ruin you in the long run. If DQ10 comes out on the Wii, which it will even if SE dont want it given Nintendos draconian ways, it will be the start of the decline of the franchise. In fact you can say it already has given both the DS games sold roughly the same despite being on the most succesful platform ever.

-sigh-

1. Dragon Quest IX is the best selling Dragon Quest ever. Monster Hunter Tri is the best selling Monster Hunter on home consoles and was followed up by the best selling MH ever too. Being on Nintendo platforms doesn't suddenly equal a series decline.

2. This thread isn't about what you think Nintendo are doing to big games.

So discussing the short-comings of not even Nintendo but Nintendo-related products got me a warning. Thats sad. = (

Besides, you can spin it all you want, DQ9 was made to cater to your average gamer and was marketed as a result in the West. As for MHT, its a flop, no way round it, it crashed and burned in Japan after a few weeks of release, never seen something so front-loaded, it was so bad that it was probably why Nintendo had to market the game in the West.

Had MHT stayed on the PS3, it wouldve sold at FFXIII levels and catapulted the franchise to top status on home consoles.

You forgot to set the rat traps around the thread?

I don't make that many threads. Usually when I do there's some big mistake. Looks like I made another here.

I think I'm gonna put a scary face in the OP...

Carl, now we have analysis guy talking about how DQX wii will cause the series to decline, and in the same paragraph as DQ9 was a bad move, given that is one of the most sucessful DQ games ever. I hope you are proud of yourself. I refuse to respond to him, using his logic, that is why I am responding to you.

Just saying, ports of old RPGs sell better on the PS3 than they do on the Wii even if they are exclusive.

I don't think we can go ontopic with him here...it's like having a dog barking at you while trying to have sex it just doesn't work at all..

I love he even mentioned Final Fantasy 13, since that is stated to be one of the worse selling (MAIN) Final Fantasy titles in Japan. (WW it is more awesome). He is a funny guy, you can clearly see he is biased, I mean with his logic, all games should roughly be for DS.

Add: I feel sorry for Carl, he made a nice thread, and I know I made a joke in my first post....but it was just a small joke...nothing serious, and this thread really got derailed by one user.

That would be a great world if that was true...

But anyway ontopic: Yes and No until we see how DQ does on a home console we really can't say and we won't know this until...2012..

i hope monster hunter passes up dragon quest.  dragon quest is good and all, but it just feels like dragon quest basically never improves while monster hunter does.

i like both, and excited for possible 3ds hunter and the upcoming dqx

Yeah to a userbase of around 5 million at the time.

But if you call it a flop, just remember, it was the game that killed the Wii in Japan...

Right. I'm going to bed now, it's 4am here.

I hope to see a 1000 post thread when I return.

Remember carl, Monster Hunter Tri is a flop selling at 1 million units and for some reason being the worse selling mainline final fantasy in awhile somehow translates to me saying it is a flop. Anyways I am done being off topic. I already said my peace on the sucessful monster hunter franchise, guess I comment on the DQ franchise.

I think the biggest problem with DQ franhicse, is unlike Monster Hunter it doesn't have huge replayability (I know they tried with this DQ9), and ends up in the used section (Japanese Used Market is huge). If it can some how solve the replayability issues, it could potientially increase sales even further.
