Why is the PS3 winning the home console warz at the moment? I really don't get where this has come from

I was just about to ask the same question?? I mean isn't it like more expensive than the other 2? and it's gimmick isn't doing as good as the others gimmicks

I see that no one thinks about one simple thing : it is the only console using Blu-ray.

Put a Wii, a PS3 and a Xbox360 in front of you and ask yourself : Wich piece of hardware is apparently more "future-proof"? The majority of people is answering PS3.

And yet less people think that this year than last... look at my YOY above your post.

We are often guilty of looking at a weeks numbers in isolation.

True the PS3 is down YOY, but it's still winning in 2011. PS3 is down and still outsells both the WIi and the 360.

Looks like Wii has officially withstood the Kinect, now in order to pass the PS3 on a regular basis Nintendo is going to need to make their console available in more markets in EMEAA like Sony does, but I don't see that happening.

Seems like both the Wii and the PS3 have withstood Kinect.  And unless there is some huge surge for Kinect this holiday season, I doubt it will continue to help the 360 much.  Something Kinect has going against it this holiday, though, is that the 3DS and NGP are more likely to become the hot new product for people to buy their loved ones.  Also, if the PS3 gets a price cut right before the holidays, it'll most likely be seen as the better buy for many gamers.

Ps3 50 million in what, 7 or 8 weeks?

OK start for Crysis 2. I imagine it'll have reasonable legs. Homefront holding up very well. Whoever picked up some cheap THQ shares must be laughing.

Good number for KZ3. I figure it'll have reasonable legs and cruise on up to 2 million easily enough.

Amazing second week for Homefront, i'm impressed. Crysis 2 had a good start, but not as good as Homefront in 360.

PS3 reclaims the lead for the year by a hairs bredth. I'm pretty sure the North American launch won't be enough to put 3DS on top next week. Can it hold the top spot any time this year? The inevitable price cuts for all 3 home consoles will probably ensure that it takes 2nd place at best. I'm beginning to think there might be some merit to Beuli's prediction, although personally I think 3DS will edge out DS by a bit if DS doesn't get a price cut (I can't see one 2 years in a row). The YTD PS3>Wii gap should end the quarter around 200-250k after next weeks data and about 350k for PS3>360. Quarterly and fiscal year reports will be quite interesting. I'm curious to see PS2 numbers as well. We know Sony shipped at least 300k in January. On a small side note, with Dragon Quest X apparently not making it out this year it seems increasingly unlikely that Wii could come out on top this year. The gap for the year in Japan could be as much as 1 million. That's pretty insane when you think about it. Back in 2008 PS3 only outsold 360 in Japan by about 650k.

My guess:

Wii: 2.6 million

360: 2.7 million

PS3: 2.8 million

3DS: 3 million (there would appear to be a fair amount of stock in the channel and the initial Australian shipment would have already been accounted for)

DS: 2.6 million

PSP: 1.8 million

PS2: 1.3 million (160 or bust!)

I like those numbers.  But my previous numbner for Wii was 2.0M but i've upped it to 2.17M  (86.80M), PS3 sounds about right with you (50M plus) and 360 to be 2.5M. ( 53M plus). Handelds also seems reasonable with you.  When is the report coming? around 25th April I should imagine.

I could be wrong but I think Sony is on April 19th. MS is April 28th. And yeah, Nintendo is on the 25th.
