Forums - General - apples next i pad to be 3D

Watching a morning TV show between debating Australian politicians when the host asked them about their i pads and the fact that a 3d  i pad was on the way, one said he still had the first version i pad and , then added since the cat is out the bag he was told about the 3d development on a tour of silicon valley and to keep it secret.

what do you think about a 3D i pad ?

As long as you can turn it off and the price is still 499 for the entry model I'm fine with it...

Obama also own an iPad... and a computer:

I dunno if I would trust that source. However seeing as Apple and Nintendo pretty much see each other as competitors I wouldn't put it past Apple to copy Nintendo and bring 3D to their I-line up. Infact I predicted this in a thread last year after E3 saying that Phones and other devices would follow Nintendo's lead pretty fast and that 3D could become standard thanks in part to Nintendo.

I'm actually sort of suprised Sony didn't launch 3D PSP, but again they had a year to copy Nintendo and the technology probably wasn't their yet. Where as Apple has two plus years not to mention they know if they make their next I-Pad 3D every I-Pad owner is going to upgrade as soon as possible meaning much higher sales for Apple!

Apple's next iPad could be 3D but I really either don't believe the OP heard it correctly or either the politician was misinformed.

There's no chance in Hell they would let someone have one out in the wild so soon unless they were directly affiliated with Apple, and even then it wouldn't be someone you'd ever see on TV.  Also, the iPad 2 was just released and I doubt they have the newer model that far ahead yet.

*Looks at unreferenced OP*

*Looks at date*

Yeah, I'm gonna call April fool on this.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

One thing about Apple is that they put user experience above EVERYTHING and avoid gimmicky shit like the plague.

Right now, 3D is gimmicky. It's a cool feature for the 3DS but when it comes to usability and UI experience, it's a detractor. I don't see Apple going with it at all.

If Apple were to use 3D it doesn't mean that they would be copying Nintendo.

If Apple were to use 3D the prices would go even higher than usual.

I seriously don't think that they will be doing that. The most that they can do is make a separate device which uses 3D.

@rocketpig: The iPod Nano 6th gen is quite gimmicky.

How so? It's a small device that plays music. I don't think they really NEEDED to add multi-touch but it definitely doesn't detract from the device, as it allowed Apple to make it much smaller and still display coverflow and other stuff without also needing to add physical buttons to it. While I think it may have been a little unnecessary, there are definite benefits to adding multi-touch, which doesn't make it gimmicky, just superfluous in the eyes of some people.

But it still is a very impractical device which does about nothing for the user experience. When you make a device that small, it's usually for a practical purpose. The lack of buttons is one of the mayor letdowns.

The user rating for the device is pretty low, and there are  a lot of complaints about it.

Even Apple can go wrong. Like the iPod shuffle with no buttons. The lack of physical buttons on such small devices is quite impractical.

On the other hand, I will admit that other Apple devices are funcitonal and do what they are supposed to, like the iPod Touch. Then again, I don't know much about Apple products on a technical level.
