I wonder if 3DS sales are dropping so fast because of the novelty wearing off or the fact that the price is way too high.

I will go with price being way too high since that is the reason I won't buy it now.

Could it be that even though Ninty markets it as a new system, people still see it as simply a DS redesign instead of a new console?  Maybe they are seeing it like the XL, just another version of the DS and are less excited?  Im  talking fan perception ,mind you, I understand the 3DS is stronger and stuff.

Possibly, another thing is that there is not title that uses 3D in an innovative way yet.

Nintendogs was that TOUCH phenomenon game for DS

3DS needs a 3D phenomenon game for itself.

Do you see any in the wings?  I feel validating 3D will be a little harder than touch...

3DS is a fucking failure.

Not yet, but it's getting there. Still time to correct some mistakes though.

it won't be a failure, normal people know that the 3ds is out there

but hitting ds heights will be hard for anything

i wouldn't want my children buried in a 3d console for hours on end,i think  that will have some effect in the long run

I see none...but nintendogs came out of nowhere.

Such games usually come out of nowhere....

But I agree with your general feel, having a must buy 3D game is gonna be harder than a touch one.

With NGP I am happy with how well developers are responding to it and I hope the back touch pad isn't a gimmick but can actually lead to some defining games for the platform.

Oh my, do I really see people speaking about bad sales? It's Nintendo, it's a new console, what about waiting before calling conclusions (like the question of the high price or no Nintendo games)? Sure, those sales aren't great, but don't you think without the japanese disaster 3DS would have been at about 1m? Just short of Nintendo's expectations (1.4 m with one more week)...

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

prior to the 3DS launch i had expressed conserns that the mainstream consumer had already lost interest in 3D -- with or without glasses.

now mind you, i really had western consumers in mind when i thought that but the 3DS numbers in japan are not giving me much confidence in the future of 3D (from nintendo or otherwise).

3d is a solitary thing do you think,in gaming anyway

still we need to wait for mario

i'm not into the 3d hype personally in games or movies

i honestly don't know.

i mean, i'm for sure not counting the 3DS out for the count yet.  high price, few releases, the tsunami ... there are plenty of other factors to consider.  but still, when you look at the DS vs 3DS launches i can't help but feel like something is going wrong here ... and then i immediatly feel sad about the future of 3D content.

i had hoped that the piss poor 3D TV sales were mostly due to price/glasses which the 3DS is far better on ...

But see, they already showed off Little Deviants, and that game where the character was like flying from buildings and stuff, Sony seemed to position some no name games in that "see we're doing something with it" category.  WIth 3DS I'm only aware of 3d version of old games, which won't be enough.  Maybe Kid Icarus?  No idea.

That's not true at all but I do believe I am right about 3DS not being as huge as a success at the DS was and still is.

Well it is doing wonders in the Western Market, if Nintendo is to be beleived.

the article specifically calls out day-1 sales which in a large part means nintendo shipped more.  once it's been out in the west for 5 weeks like it has in japan we'll have a much better idea of how the 3DS is going to do in the west.
