Forums - Nintendo - 3DS headache reports hit major UK newspaper The Sun

MaxConsole

News of the 3DS headaches and dizzy spells experienced by gamers has hit major UK newspaper The Sun. In their article, The Sun article reports on Maxconsole's findings (hereand here) with regards to the amount of gamers taking to social media to express the ill effects experienced. Moreover the Sun Doctor provides an analysis of why the 3DS may give people headaches and dizzy spells. The article is now showing on The sun online as well as within the physical paper which is estimated to have a daily readership of over 7 million people!

Here is the explanation from The Sun doctor

TECHNOLOGY can make a plain 2D picture look 3D by bombarding different images into each eye. It may be a clever trick, but it's not at all natural and can cause problems.

In normal life, each eye gets images that are only very slightly different. The human body works best when all the senses receive compatible messages. On a ship, you feel seasick when your sense of balance tells you the water is choppy but your eyes tell you all is calm. It's no real wonder that 3D games can give some users headaches, dizziness and even nausea.

It is good that they bring up potential health hazards.

I got a headache but a very minor one, I didn't feel sick, some people are just paranoid about it,  why are we not hearing any reports like this from 3D TV's?  I'm sensing a new era of Nintendo bashing.

Maybe because they use different tech and the glassless one is worse for your eyes. I for one have no problems with 3d movies with glasses but I can't see the 3d in 3ds.

I dunno I was worried that I would suffer negative side effects. However I did not, but a thread I created asked VGChartz members if the 3DS gave negative side effects. 1/3rd of those who posted said they suffered from some sort of negative side effect. That is pretty high, however I don't suffer from any side effects so I don't really mind hearing about them.

But this is bad for Nintendo, if these 7-million readers get turned off trying 3DS that is a huge loss of potential sales. If the thread I created is correct then an awful large amount of gamers will not be able to play games in 3D without negative side effects.

In the end Sony and Microsoft fanboys and as CNN proved Apple fanboys are all going to get on the bash Nintendo band wagon. It seems that since DS Nintendo never launches a game console without a gamble.

DS- do people want a second screen with touch features. Many people got upset about it, but Nintendo ended up lucky because the majority of consumers fell in love with the device.

Nintendo Wii - Is the market ready for 1:1 motion tracking controls. Nintendo took a major gamble knowing that the technology was new and unproven. However Nintendo won again.

Nintendo 3DS - Nintendo knew that some gamers would no doubt complain of negative side effects. I mean they tested the device for over a year. Yet Nintendo launched the device anyways gambling that people would buy it anyways.

Its always a gamble and in this case Sony and Microsoft will go on the offensive! Along with their fanbases and paranoid gamers!

That's probably because you have vision impairments. 1 in 10 people can't see 3D properly. I'm lucky to be one of the 9 out of 10.

Sorry to crush your theory, but I don't have impaired vision.

You have if you can't see 3D in 3DS properly, your not used to seeing 3D with no glasses for a start.
