I have a friend that will buy pokemon white when he gets a 3DS. he doesnt have a ds. I think a lot of people are like this. what do you guys think?

The launch of the 3DS may level out Pokemon sales. I think the small boost a 3DS launch gives Pokemon will at best offset the weekly decline of a new game.

well yea there should be some slowing in its decline because of it.

i think there will, i dont see why anyone would buy a ds for the new pokeman with the 3ds rolling in. there wont be any more software developed for the ds. but then again ds sales stayed pretty strong until 3ds arrived so im not sure what people are doing.

I have to agree with this.  Unless someone wants to get back into the series after a long hiatus or they are new to the series I can't see them not owning a DS already, and if they are new to it they are probably young enough to play it on whatever system their parents will buy them. So, frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if it continued to decline.  I really don't recall a game ever getting a boost due to the release of a backwards compatable system (though it could have happened).

It didn't receive any significant boost in Japan from 3DS launch.

Probably some but not a huge amount. Why buy a 3DS for a game that is made for a console at half the price? Not to mention all the other good deals we might be seeing soon for its games used and new in the market.

No. Why would a DS game boost 3DS sales? 

 People who want Pokemon White/Black already have a DS because they are the same people who would of wanted Pokemon Dimand/Pearl/Platnuim/Heart Gold/Soul Silver. If for some reason they don't have a DS they will probably buy a DS and not the more expensive 3DS.
