He probably doesn't want to spend over $200 on a 120-128 GB SSD and frankly, with all the installs, demos, DLC, etc. even a cheaper 80 GB SSD would be extremely pinched unless you were in the habit of regularly deleting content (installs, PSN purchases, demos) that wasn't currently being used.
But sure; if money is no object, you can't beat SSDs for internal storage whether it's in a PS3, a laptop, a desktop or anywhere. Arguably the single best upgrade for almost any system.

No need to format the replacement HDD when installing it either; the PS3 will automatically require the drive to be formatted once it boots up, so the only issue in transferring your old drive's data is having an external storage source to save the Back Up to (created by the PS3 Back Up Utility). For a 40 GB HDD, it shouldn't take that long. |

Is there a video for the how to remove/install HDD for a PS3 phat? Thanks anyone who can help!
The video provided is for a slim. If I had a slim I wouldn't need more memory!

Any PS3 teardown video will have this.
You can use your fingernail to pop the plastic HDD cover off. Use a PH-OO or equivalent Phillips tip screwdriver to remove the single blue machine screw holding the HDD caddy in place, taking care not to strip the head, which is made out of a softer alloy than steel. Flip the wire caddy handle up and slide the caddy to the right until it pops free of the SATA connector. Remove the four side mounted Phillips screws holding the drive in place and the HDD is free from the caddy. Reverse the disassembly order with the new HDD to reassemble.

i see you didnt read my post =( after all the time i spent writing it
| kitler53 said: also keep in mind, if you want saves and whatnot to transfer you'll have to use the backup utility. the big question i had and now i can confirm is YES, copy prohibited files will transfer over no problem. This will obviously require an additional storage device. |
Well that may be right, but I've tried backing up a few times recently and all I end up getting is "The back-up operation could not be completed (80010038)"
So HDD swap out wise I'm screwed and I'll have to hope my 160Gig HDD holds out for a while.
Hope Rainbird has more success.
