I found this about the sequel

The Ghost of Onyx sequel is the first novel in a multi-book deal between Tor Books and bestselling writer Karen Traviss, taking place within the Halo universe [1].

Traviss has clarified the term "sequel" in regards to the statement by saying: "It isn't a sequel to Ghosts of Onyx in the sense that you mean a sequel, i.e. a continuation of the same story with the same cast—these novels are just set after it and follow the events of Halo 3. There'll be new characters and new storylines."

So yes Karen Traviss is the author though I'm a little bit dissapointed that she says it won't be a direct continuation.  How the hell are we supposed to know what happened to Dr. Halssey and the others?  I hope she at least explains what happens to them even if that isn't the main goal of the book

I remember reading that a few days back... I also remember being as disappointed as I am now after reading it again.

Its such a horribly good cliff hanger, it NEEDS to be continued!

Oh that is weak :/ I want to know what happens to Dr. Halsey and them! But maybe they aren't making the direct sequel until later because Halo 4 might have something to do with all that.

that's actually a VERY good point, it has long been rumored that what Chief is floating towards at the end of the Halo 3 Legendary ending and what was seen in the debut Halo 4 trailer is some sort of Shield World. Some even speculated it was Onyx itself but I don't think that's really possible.

But maybe Halo 4 will cover exactly what Halsey and the others uncovered inside of Onyx and there will be a connection since some have speculated the "ancient evil" that you will fight against in Halo 4 will have a forerunner connection or possibly even a link to Mendicate Bias himself.

More information:

New York, NY – June 29, 2011 - Tor Books, an imprint of Tom Doherty Associates, LLC—the largest publisher of science fiction in the world—are excited to reveal the title and cover of the first novel in an all-new trilogy by Karen Traviss that will explore the Halo universe in the wake of the final events of Halo 3. Halo novels published by Tor have sold over a million combined copies to date, and the entire Halo catalogue is now available in mass market paperback from Tor. Along with Karen’s debut Halo novel, Tor is also publishing the second novel from legendary science fiction author Greg Bear’s Halo Forerunner trilogy in 2012.

HALO: GLASSLANDS will be published on October 25, 2011. An unabridged audiobook edition will publish simultaneously with the new novel.

#1 New York Times best-selling author Karen Traviss has received critical acclaim and award nominations for her Wess'har series, as well as regularly hitting the bestseller lists with her Star Wars and Gears of War novels. Her first foray into the Halo universe came with “Human Weakness,” a short story from Fall 2009’s New York Times bestselling Halo: Evolutions anthology that introduced her to millions of new Halo fans. A former defense correspondent and TV and newspaper journalist, she lives in Wiltshire, England.

“HALO is one of the grandest, most epic science fiction stories ever told across media,” says Tom Doherty, President and Publisher of Tor Books. “The Halo novels are one of the most popular and well-loved genre series published this century, and we’re thrilled to have Karen to continue that grand tradition.”

HALO: GLASSLANDS will follow-up the events and characters from Halo: Ghosts of Onyx in the wake of the final events of Halo 3.

“Although Karen’s novel deals with the characters and events from Ghosts of Onyx, it’s the wonderful new characters and scenarios that she brings so vividly to life that will excite Halo fiction fans,” says Frank O’Connor, Franchise Development Director for 343 Industries. “We get an incredible opportunity to explore the Halo universe in the aftermath of the Covenant war, and unveil some mysteries and storylines that will connect readers to a compelling corner of the Halo universe. I can’t wait for readers to enjoy this book as much as we have.”

The Halo franchise is an award-winning collection of properties that have grown into a global entertainment phenomenon. Beginning with the original Halo: Combat Evolved for Xbox in 2001, the rich fiction of the franchise has since inspired a series of blockbuster Xbox and Xbox 360 video games, New York Times best-selling novels, comic books, action figures, apparel and more. To date, sales in the Halo franchise have eclipsed $2.3 billion. Microsoft recently dropped a bombshell on Halo fans at E3 with two big announcements. Coming November 15, 2011, Microsoft will release Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, a spectacularly remastered version of the original Halo campaign bundled with some of the most beloved multiplayer maps in Halo history—all created in celebration of the 10th anniversary of one of the most beloved franchises in gaming history. Also announced was Halo 4, the hugely-anticipated next blockbuster installment that will mark the beginning of a new Halo trilogy when it releases in-stores during the 2012 holiday season.

Hell Yeah!!!!!!!!

Day 1 buy for me for sure.

Shweet thread. This is the Halo Wiki of threads. They need to create a redirecting link.

Oh thank god there's a title. Now we can finally stop calling it "Ghosts of Onyx 2."

Though I'm glad to see, despite Traviss's assertions, that at least some of what went on for Halsey and the others (Frankie's comment about "Although Karen’s novel deals with the characters and events from Ghosts of Onyx").

Why is it that no one ever thinks the acient evil could be The Precursors? Afterall they were the ones who created the Flood so maybe they have created something even worse this time.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Im interested in these Halo books but by reading them, do you think will spoil Halo4?

I never read the books that Halo:Reach was based on, so I was a bit bummed when I read posts about the spartans dying at the end, it kinda spoiled it for me
