Um, you are supposed to prove your point, not mine.

lol okay

Well, at least I tried.

One of the most significant differences between 5th and 6th gen graphics is that in the 5th gen graphics got worse the closer the camera got. Either a pixelated or a blurred mess, depending on the hardware. 6th gen graphics usually make use of mipmapping to make things look more detailed when getting closer. However, this is one thing you can't really see in the videos you posted as Pilotwings is a game where you spend most of the time in the air and pretty much anything is in the distance.

Other improvements are higher polygon count, more objects in the landscape, bigger draw distance, better textures, better lighting, better water, better effects. Sometimes it's not easy to spot these things in short scenes of gameplay, especially in the case of Pilotwings. At first glance it may look like Resort isn't much of an improvement over 64, but I assure that that is not the case.

Cool, good post.

Especially the mipmap difference between 5th n 6th gen, i didn't know that.

I didn't know u was so knowledgable in graphics Rol. I fought u didnt care about grafix.

From what Ive seen im disappointed with the graphics. Just watched those Pilotwings Resort videos on Gametrailers and it doesn't look much better than Pilotwings N64.

You know, to say that the top one is on a screen roughtly a fifth, it not, much smaller, than the bottom one, and in 3D...

Oh to hell with it, the only reason you aren't getting a 3DS, based on this evidence, is because you're blind

Nice review

Why thank you

All in all, just actually stand there and look at it. You've gotta remember about the difference in the size of the screens as well as the contrast and poor picture quality. Take all that into account and maybe games look Wii standard

Nintendo have once again raised the bar when it comes to how we game, and after playing with the 3DS, you have to wonder how you were evr sketical about it. Yes, it may not be perfect. Yes, the launch line-up isn't the best ever. And it may be a bit pricey. But there's no denying that it's fun to play, and that's the most important thing. The graphics are a definte step up from the DS series, and other features like AR and Street Pass have almost limitless possibilites. It's clear Nintendo listened to criticisms of their consoles from the last gen, and to silence naysayers they've gone and created one of, no,  THE best handheld gaming device of all time.

Seeing really is believeing.

A good review, Cone, but I feel it impertinent to hi-light this segment. You claim that Nintendo have raised the bar as to how we game but this implies that an addition of 3D has any effect on how we game. It doesn't. Like much of what Nintendo has done over the past few years, it is gimmicky. That's not to say it's bad nor that nintendo is bad but it is to say that that's all Touch Screens, Motion Sensors, etc, etc are: Gimmicks.
It's been emulated and performed by other companies too. And yes, the majority DOES affect how games are played but does it neccessarily create immersion? No. Perhaps it would help were these items not whored out but that's economics. Fact is, Street Pass: Already been done, Spot Pass: Also, already been done. AR, sure - a little different but honestly? I see little in it.
But I honestly don't see much use in these concepts generally (And Cone will attest this (I'm a BIG hater on most things)) when they don't get put to proper employment. Sadly, game producers don't do this. Apart from those accociated with the console producers.  All it does is make gaming accessable to a mainstream party (The public as opposed to nerds) at the cost of reduction in quality.
Granted, yes, the 3D IS awesome. It just won't matter unless this handheld, producers are kicked up the collective metaphoric arse until quality gets to what it was.

Rol, did you get Ridge Racer too?...if you did, what are your opinions on the game?

This ^^

The 3DS is supposed to be between the Gamecube and the Wii in terms of eye candy, and I'd say that it's a fair bet that it's also more powerful than the Wii in terms of processing power (as opposed to the power of the individual GPSs for each). You've also got to remember that all 3DS games are displaying two images at the same time as well as having two seperate frame buffers for each image.

The guys from High Voltage have said that there's a lot more under the hood than developers and publishers are giving it credit for, and I think we'll all be pretty gobsmacked by the Resident Evil games and Metal Gear Solid 3D when they're released later on this year. High Voltage ported a proof-of-concept demo of Conduit 2 to the 3DS using the same assets and the same shader effects that the Wii SKU uses which ran at 30fps without being optimised.

And due to the PICA200 using traditional shaders rather than forcing devs to mess around with an unwieldy TEV Unit (that the Gamecibe and Wii use) we'll see more shader effects being used by all developers on the 3DS platform.

I know a fair bit about graphics, but I also have gamed long enough to know that great graphics don't magically make a bad game good. Just like the 3D of the 3DS won't save the garbage that Ubisoft puts out.

Ummm maybe some of the games are garbage but actually Ghost Recon seems to have turned up quite nicely (haven't played it yet, it's still on its way, but reviews and player comments in neogaf all agree).

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Anticipating: Xenoblade, The Last Story, Mario Kart 7, Rayman Origins, Zelda SS, Crush3D, Tales of the Abyss 3DS, MGS:Snake Eater 3DS, RE:Revelations, Time Travellers, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Luigi's Mansion 2, MH TriG, DQ Monsters, Heroes of Ruin

But reviews for Rayman 3D are supposedly positive too, even though the game is trash.

ok, but for Ghost Recon I am talking about player reactions (in Neogaf...) as well.

Now what's this?

Are you saying the top screen is better than the bottom one? No is isnt, there's much more detail in the bottom one.

Viral marketers or gamers with low standards. There, got this point covered as well.
