Forums - Nintendo - IGN: Nintendo 3DS Review

Closing Comments

The 3DS is truly a remarkable device and a compelling expansion to Nintendo's handheld gaming platform, but it is far from perfect. Though the 3D experience has its moments of absolute brilliance, it can be short-lived due to the imprecise nature of glasses-free 3D technology, with frequent distortion, ghosting, and user discomfort. The 3D also takes its toll on the device's battery life, which limits total gameplay time to anywhere between two to five hours. But despite its technical shortcomings, Nintendo's innovative software is what truly makes the 3DS a compelling device. Though the launch lineup is devoid of any landmark titles and many larger games like Kid Icarus and Zelda won't release until later this year, there is plenty of fun to be had between the pre-installed AR applications and games like Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition and PilotWings Resort. There is also the issue of price. The 3DS has an MSRP of $249.99 – no small sum – and many may find it hard to justify given the currently limited software lineup, poor battery performance, and the certainty of future hardware revisions, but for purists, it's a small price to pay for getting into Nintendo's glasses-free 3D gaming revolution at the ground level.

I disagree, i think the score is fine. He said its good and thats what it is for the price imo. I just don't agree with saying its too big for pocket. Then again i don't own the system.

a 2 to 5 hours battery life... there's a lot of difference between 2 and 5 hours hahahahaha

Well I guess IGN needs the page views then.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

If it were called the i3DS, it would have gotten at least a 8.5.

If they wanted page views, they would have given it a 6. Intead, they called the system good. So i don't think they need any page views at the moment =p.

Good score
