Shouldn't then the Xbox hardware be counted as a next-gen console if Wii does? Microsoft has learned that people don't want high-spec consoles because of the PS2-popularity, and therefor they published the 360 as it is right now, which means that MS doesn't have the best hardware console anymore!

Therefor I say that the Xbox is the best old-gen console, and PS3 the best current-gen console (because of the CPU and GPU stats, the BD (Blu-ray Disc) Player inside, etc.).

Part in bold = Not officially confirmed.

And even if those where confirmed, Wii's CPU would be better because it's a PowerPC architecture (thx omgwtfbbq), better for games than a common mobile Celeron.

AND Xbox shouldn't be considered between the nex-gen consoles even if those numbers where right. Xbox has no Wi-Fi, has no wireless controller, has no motion sensing controller, etc.

AAAND you can't base hardware's performance on pure clock speed.

But let's not get this thread derailed ok? :)

 you said it right about the specs there is still no official specs for hte wii to compare anything to. its just a way sony and M$ fanboys can try and bring down the wii cause they dont like how successful it is.

Yes GC is underrated ... but the PS2 deserves all the praises it gets . It had by far the most superior game library from all IMO . The Xbox is overrated , it was great hardware wise , but much weeker in software department than the GC ...

Sony is being put to the test right now. Can Sony stand on its own two legs without the third party exclusives. No the PS3 is bombing horribly! Sony is the most over rated monopoly in the world!

 

Is the GameCube under rated?

Yes it is, the GameCube has a library of AAA-class. I for one own 32-First party Nintendo games and about a dozen third party games. The GameCube has far more value then many notice! 


Heck, Sony didn't even have a launch game for the PS2. Fanta-Vision came out about a month later. It's like Sony did everything (no launch games, defective systems, confusing start up) to sabotage their own system. Still, in the end, the PS2 was the place to be. It just took about 8 months.

ps2: definitely deserves all the praise it gets
gc: very underrated

The ps2 isn't overrated, it had an absolutely enormous library of good games. You were really missing out if you didn't (or still don't) have one.

The GC, however, is underrated. It deserved to sell much more than the 20 million that it did. It didn't have nearly as many good games as the ps2, but the good games that it did have were great. I had more fun with Metroid Prime,Metroid Prime 2, REmake, Pikmin 2, Eternal Darkness, and Paper Mario: TTYD than anything on the ps2.

I'm sorry if your NOT a Nintendo fan, the Game-cube was SEVERELY over-rated. As someone pointed out above he owned 32 first party Nintendo titles... I found titles outside of Nintendo's first party lineup to be severely under-performing and kind of lame. The PS2's library was so huge, it had something for everyone AND was extensively focused on 3rd party.

I think it's really important to be focused on both 3rd and 1st party titles. Until Nintendo starts producing first party titles that appeal more to adults I wont be interested in their games. So I'll honestly ask, if  your NOT a fan of Nintendo's first party titles, was the Game Cube under-rated? I personally say no, it was highly over-rated, it offered a fraction of the mature titles found on the other two, it had no real functionality aside from playing games, and the damn thing was purple >_>

The Xbox as a console did many things I'd consider revolutionary for it's time, it had a semi-diverse library of titles for most ages, and as far as I know the console was reliable (and decent looking) and played some goddamn DVD's! (with a remote of course -_-;;; but it IS MS after all.) Definitely under-rated in my opinion.

GameCube is vastly underrated.

Depends what you mean.

PS2 in my opinion was the best console of last gen.

My gamecube stopped working shortly after i got it and i waited a few weeks to fix it. It had some decent games, but at the same time... i often bought many multi-plat games on for the gamecube instead of PS2 just to justify it's existance.

SNES, NES and Balley Astrocade however are all above the PS2 in "Best console of all Time" for me... with the Wii having a good chance of passing it as well.

SNES just crushes it when it comes to RPGs. SNES is the King of RPGs.

NES just has a lot of the REAL classics... games that stand the test of time, that i don't see the PS2 lasting as long gaMes like Tecmo Superbowl, RBI Baseball, Super Dodgeball and River City Ransom... games that peopel still play to this day many generations later, just because they are pure fun.

Balley Astrocade, probably just because it was my first... and almost nobody even knows what it is... and i've never met anyone who could even come close to touching me at "Checkmate". So... PS2 wasn't overrated last generation... However it wasn't the best console of all time. So as a whole... maybe?

 Please explain to me ... what is so ovrrated about the PSone . The N64 was great , but only got 200 games on it .
