I actually agree that Xbox was the most underrated console last gen, in terms of hardware, not library.

The extra storage of a hard drive was a major innovation, it provided a lot of storage with better performance and cost-effectiveness than flash cards could provide. It also made the system very moddable, not that MS wanted that result. I know a couple people who use Xboxes with an expanded hard drive as media centers.

I also think that the Xbox controller was the best of last gen, once they ditched the sasquatch version for a human-sized model. It basically won by having the best pair of thumbsticks.

Personally, I enjoyned the 'key' games on the Gamecube far more than any game I played on the PS2 but the PS2's vast library meant that it ended up getting more use ... I always found it odd that you could play games on both systems and the Gamecube version would have better graphics, be much more polished, have far fewer bugs or 'issues', and simply be more fun yet both games would get the same score ...

We're in the same boat.

No, and no. GC was basically N64 number 2, as Wii is basically N64 number 3 only with motion controls. Nintendo tend to cut back on tech and try to muster gameplay instead, which can be a really good thing if you succeed!
Both Ninty and Sony have followed the same principal recipe for three gens running, but their outcomes seem to have been reversed.

Xbox is underrated, Ps2 and GC are overrated.

I agree with you completely, the original Xbox was reliable, brought some great ideas to the realm of consoles (hard drive, online play, the little dongles that disconect instead of pulling your console), as a CONSOLE it was great. It was powerfull, had functionality, and looked decent lol.

I remember there being a few reports of the power cable sparking in early models, I believe there was one case where there was a fire.... In thr physical sense it was sturdy, you could hit it with a hammer and nothing happens, but electronically it wasn't incredibly reliable.

What the hell is wrong with your eyes?

I agree with the other points though, it did have some good ideas (online, HDD etc... the dongles were a great idea but wireless overtook it... and the dongles i had experiance were a bit stiff, if the x-box hadn't been so heavy they wouldn't have worked)

I would argue that the x-box was overrated by Americans, and underrated by the Japanese. whereas the GC is underated by the Europeans and Japanese, but about right among Americans (they did buy well over 50% of them)

both ps1 and ps2 are definitely overrated. they were amazing for rpg's but way overrated when you look outside that genre. still good systems though. but i would choose n64 > ps1 and xbox, gc
gamecube is super underrated. rogue squadron 2, wind waker, mario sunshine, resident evil remake, eternal darkness, tales of symphonia, skies of arcadia, 2 batan kaitos games, f zero, double dash, 2 pikmins, fire emblem, ikaruga, smash bros, battalion wars, metroid prime 1 and 2.... all of those are exclusives(at least not on xbox/ps2). probably a few more good exclusives plus all the good 3rd party games and thats one heck of a great lineup. although i will say despite me being a nintendo gamer first and foremost i did end up liking the xbox a little bit better than my gamecube. kotor, the halos, half life 2, battlefront 1 and 2, and ninja gaiden won me over.

end of '08 predictions: wii - 43 million,  360 - 25 million, ps3 - 20 million

Games I've beat recently: Super Mario Galaxy, Knights of the Old Republic, Shadow of the Collossus

Proud owner of wii, gamecube, xbox, ps2, dreamcast, n64, snes, genesis, 3DO, nes, atari, intellivision, unisonic tournament 2000, and gameboy

ya the ga,ecube was very underrated, but the ps2 was only a little overrated

Dreamcast: Underrated
Gamecube: Underrated
Xbox: Overrated
Playstation 2: Overrated

The Gamecube is definitely my favorite of the 6th generation. Why? Super Smash Bros. Melee! Playstation 2 is second, followed by the Dreamcast. Xbox... Well... I like it... It's good... Not great... Halo, and Halo 2 kick ass. Then it kind of stops there... Blinx?... Yeah...

the ps2 is, and probably always will be one of the best consoles of all time, not because of the hardware as it was pretty flawed, but because of the software support it recieved from so many major developers.

the GC was an absolutely AMAZING piece of hardware, not only did it technically out perform both of its competitors, it was produced at profit, the cogs were fine tuned in there.

Games wise the GC was severely lacking, but, at the end of the day the money spend on a GC was money well spent, provided you were wise with which games you bought. Alot of essential gameplay experiences were only available on the cube.
