Forums - General - RT is the worst news station.

its a serious fucking piece of garbage.  one of their people just said "there should be a 9/11 every ten to 15 years"...not as a prediction, mind you...but what he sees as the best thing to happen for the US.

and just the other day...within a 5minute time span...they had how the libyan rebels only want guns because they have small penises...the US is directly controlling the genocidal libyan rebels to attack the peaceful legitimate libyan government...and the the US is a dictatorship, has no free speech, and that americans should overthrow their dictator.   each point by a different person!   if this is typical of the news from russia then it says a lot about the country.

It seems Russia really can't escape governments that change reality to fit their own personal desires.

Russian media is still very deep in the Yellow Journalism phase that USA journalism went through 110 years ago, most of it sensational, jingoistic, or both. Doesn't help that all television outlets are state owned and most big newspaper and radio groups. The Russian Blogosphere is where you have to go if you want anything honest, and then the blogosphere is largely tainted to spin everything anti-government, so it's of little use as well

and when was the last time you saw an american station say "people of russia! rise up and overthrow your dictator"  or "russia needs a good dozen airport bombings every other year or so...just to keep them on their toes"

The American media loves to imply the former, i would think, and villainize the Russian government in many cases (remember the beginning of the 2008 South Ossetia war? It took a damn long time for the media to acknowledge that that whole affair was Georgia's fault)

Not as extreme as RT, obviously, but the bias is noticeably present.

how the hell is it georgias fault?  russia trying to ethnically cleanse the area and annex the territory...encouraging the violent seperatist groups to attack georiga...then the groups violating a truce.   georgia retaliating against aggression hardly places the blame on them.

and there is no need to imply anything when you state facts about how corrupt almost all levels of the russian government are.

The South Ossetian provisional government, backed by Russia, backed out of negotiations with Georgia when Georgia decided that they were no longer going to recognize that government and then install a puppet Ossetian regime in Tbilisi of all places, right under Saakashvili's eye. It was Saakashvili's intransigience on the matter that started the violence between Georgian security forces and the South Ossetian armed forces

Georgia was just moving in for the kill at that point, and are quite lucky that the EU managed to convince Russia to not employ a "Gulf War II" style solution on Georgia
