I suppose that's true when you look at what got a 9 this week and Pilotwings

I just said JP games because, aside from Pokemon, TLS is the first JRPG to get above 7/10 this gen...

Don't really think we can complain tbh, they did give FF12 a 9/10.

while i'm not stating i agree with their reviews, it can't be said they show faviouritisim when they gave a JRPG near perfect score and even listed it in their top 10 games of all time - and honor that not even MGS1 or FF7 achieved when they made the list.

and they seem to love Japanese games, they gave Bayonetta a 10 and they're really hyping up Dark Souls (which will be badass).

so imo Edge just have different ways of looking at things.

Edge gives a lot of review scores I disagree with. No interest in the magazine as a result.

Well Disgaea 3, Tales of Vesperia and FF Tactics: The War of the Lions got an 8 and Demon's Souls (if you consider it a JRPG) and DQIX a 9 but I get what you mean.

They gave Disgaea 3 an 8?  That's surprising, I assumed the graphics would already take it down to a 7 in their scale, glad they were able to look past that.  But now that means the scored Disgaea 3 over VC....bah.

I think that maybe Edge reviews should be taken in a similar way to Destructoid's- as a negative, unpredictable light compaed to other reviewing sites...

Just like why I watch ZP; it won't tell me if I WANT that game, but it will tell me about flaws in it (albeit over-exaggurated)

I'm mostly ok with Edge, they decided to use a different scale to their review and I wish them the best with it.  It may take down some game's meta scores and just look low in general but it works within their scale.

I just think they got Valkyria wrong compared to other JRPGs, but then it's unlikely that all these JRPGs were reviewed by the same person so comparing them isn't as meaningful as we think since different reviewers within the same company can give vastly different reviews.

I agree. I loved VC and it deserves at least an 8, maybe even a 9...

As for TLS, well, I dunno. I haven't played that, but general consensus says its one of the best JRPG's of the gen, so 8 seems about right. If it's well-localisd it may go up to a 9, who knows.

My biggest issue is how Japanese games seem to score much lower than Western games, when I believe that a lot of Japanese games are better than generic shooter 87 or whatever

But everyone has different tastes, like you say, and it may have been reviewed by different people. 

All in all the next best thing you can do other than looking in-depth at metacritic reviews is just to go out and play the game yourself
